Probably not but neither will it ruin someones experiance if they have to pay the same price as everyone else.

Your comparing real life with a fictional game, in real life they do it to attract customers since they usually end up buying other stuff whilst in the store.

Can't find a reason for this... either just lower cost of everything for everyone all the time if SE think it cost too much tomes/replace mirrors whatever if the system sucks.
These limited time thing sounds kind of retarded and people looking for the cheap way out.

Is it fair that if I want the better gear I need to devote countless hours to the game? Hours I don't have. Because of the way the game is set up. Is it fair that maybe all I want to do is extreme or coil but can't because I cannot devote the time to get my gear up to par? Maybe all I can do is play few hours a week but want to go right to challenging content. Maybe I have a job, a house to take care of, a family to feed, a daughter that I get up at 3 am to take care of, and I'm off to work 2 hours later only to come back home 16 hours later to cook my family dinner, then just then can maybe relax and unwind for a couple hours before bed, but have to do daily grinds or wait for FATES that don't spawn before I have to get off the game to rinse and repeat my day, does that sound fair for everyone in this situation? Real life affects many that enjoy playing this game, just that they may never reach the content they really want to play because of the time that is required to get there.

You don't have to play the game? I mean the way you say that makes it sound excruciating for you.

I can see it working if it were based on the Grand Company supply quests. If Rowena were to do the same it would be a random thing to star an item and reduce the cost. But that'll imply that some items will be removed from inventory, and tossed into dungeons. I can see it on consumables where either the cost would get reduced or the amount bought may be increased at a buy one get one half off price. Ex; (item) = 100tokens, *(item) x2 =150 tokens. Otherwise given what they sell I don't see how it would work with the game economy beyond a concept..

I would rather like to see some rare pops like

"Wandering Merchant" who actually do wander from zone to zone along a random path (obviously have to be immune to mob aggro) and sells a few randomly selected pieces of old content related tomestone items at a discount. He disappears after making the first sale.

"Deeply Wounded Adventurer" who will pop at a random zone and location, and live for a randomly decided time. Talking to him gives you a piece of old content related tomestone item (actual item randomly decided when he pop, so you might get something absolutely useless to you) in exchange for delivering a letter to the grand company or something. Upon accepting the quest he dies and you get the item immediately. Actually delivering the letter will give you some GC Seals (in case of delivery to GC) or gil (in case of delivery to closest guards).

"Lost satchels" that contain hints of who it belongs to, and you get some tomestones in exchange for returning it to the right owner. There will be other NPCs at the same time who will accept the satchel but give you no reward because they don't really own it and just want to take advantage of a silly adventurer like you. You have to think through the hints to identify the right owner.

"Mysterious nodes" that pop at random locations for botany/mining/fishing (depending on where it pops) that will give you a mysterious flower/ore/fish if you have the appropriate gatherer level and gear. You turn it in to the relevant guildmaster for some experience (if low level) or gil and some rare materials (if level capped).

Things that can't realistically be farmed and isn't just a giveaway to all players who can be online at that time.

1: You will be online during the period where items are on sale.
2: You will actually be able to raid with that little time on your hands.
3: Still gonna fall behind because people that play all the time will get the discount all the time and gather more tomes then you and still be ahead of you in terms of gear.

Alltho anyone can enjoy a MMO regardless of time available, if you wanna be @ the top and doing the latest content you ARE going to have to put in quite some time into the game.

Otherwise why even lock content behind older stuff? we might aswell remove the need to kill previous extreme primals or coil turns and open them up to everyone right from the start.

You brought up fairness, and my point was the game is not fair to everyone. The example I put forward said MAYBE. Not necessarily meaning my situation. A quick look at my Lodestone page will show that I have put some time into the game. MAYBE this person has weekends and Holidays off. MAYBE this person picks up dinner on the way home, freeing up more time to play. MAYBE this person doesn't want use this extra time grinding for stuff that may or may not drop. Alas, this is the way the game is, it is what has to be done to get better gear I have done that, I have only taken the first step at getting better gear, but I'll get there. I am speaking of the fairness of the way items are obtained. Is the game fair to everyone? No it isn't. So fairness has no bearing on whether or not they have a "sale" That is the whole point I was attempting to make, but I do get long winded sometimes and lose people along the way. Sorry.
