Gulf in item levels between two players

Just did a Garuda (hard) trial where the tanks were new players with basic gear, and the dps were not. A black mage took the majority enmity, then for some reason kept running and doing laps around the arena with Garuda following, making her difficult to hit.

It got me thinking, the minimum requirement for entry is item level 52. What if you have a tank at that level, but with veteran dps players who could be anywhere up to level 130 at this point.

I am guessing it would be impossible for a minimum level tank to secure the enemy versus maximum level dps unless they willingly slowed down.

Just wondered what people thought about the potential for Duty Finder to match players with vastly different gear levels. My thoughts are that either the upper limit would need to be lowered, by using an item level sync for trials, or raise the floor by having new players start out with stronger gear (maybe the AF sets from job quests could be adjusted to a higher item level?)

at this point nobody wants garuda hm nerfed by a level sync.. its the go to light farm cus it takes just over 2mins to beat.

now f your talking purely df and not pre-made parties then I can agree with you cus new tanks aint gonna hold hate to anybody with 110 and up gear if those people know how to play there classes

I was going to say that level sync was doing something similar but as chidarake stated, no one really wants it.
Confining duty finder to similar ilevels would also not be the best idea i.e. longer queue times.

Unfortunately, I don't really see a quick fix to this and any that would be implemented would probably just tick off a lot of people.

Single-player Echo. If DF detects an X iLevel jump between tanks/healers/DPS, the lower-geared individuals get Y% Echo to help even the gap. Taking Garuda HM as an example, with entry level being i52... If say, the tank has an iL of 60 and the DPS has an iL of 110, the tank would get like... 15% Echo to adjust their enmity and etc to better match the DPS output. Same would go for the healers. i60 Healer in Garuda HM but an i120 tank would get the same or higher amounts to ensure they are able to keep up with whatever strategy the tank employs. My FCmates and I were actually talking about this yesterday and this seemed to be a feasible option. Matching DPS/Healer/Tank iLevels via the DF would increase the queue times, which I would be OK with but I know a lot of people would not. This wouldn't require a whole lot of reprogramming (most likely) and shouldn't increase queue times much, if any at all.

Beening a LIGHT farmer I've had problems with this as well. I'll wear lower level gear to save on gil in repair cost. Garuda Hm donst really need you to be Item lv 130 to clear. But, you cant stop player overgearing fights. Auto syncing would destroy DF. Many players would just not use it for light farming. Ending in newer 50's having longer Q times. I dont have any anwers to fix this problem .But, I understand it from the other side of the coin having to tell high level tanks to slow down and kill both sister because the heals and the Dps only have 4200 hp and cant live thru the fight. It is a problem.

help vs. ridicule is the problem. Some groups intentionally help a new guy out and more or less carry them through a dungeon to get through a story or some other desired goal, especially with FCs or linkshells. On the other hand, in Duty Finder you may end up with a bunch of veterans and relatively crap gear, and they can vote ban someone trying to get their first clear, calling them a troll.

Some trials/dungeons are way more gear than skill, but some people let their item level go to their heads and then bash newbies over the head with their "awesome skillz" which are quite often just the bonuses from gear. Frankly, I'd prefer a game with more character class/level based abilities, and less gear based bonuses, but that would be almost as hard to program as editing Echo for single individuals of extremely low level.

For Duty Finder they should Sync your iLvl to something more manageable for the lesser geared people when it comes to the Relic Reborn and Hardmode Primals. Tank can get in a iLvl 52? Then we should be Synced to iLvl 90-95. It'll still be dead in four-five minutes and the only people who would be slowed down are those that are Light farming Solo. But if you queue in as a group, iLvl shouldn't be restricted. Obviously later stuff like Extreme Modes, and the already iLvl 90 Trials wouldn't be affected, it'd just be for those who are newer to the game and trying to do the Fresh 50 stuff but get stuck with 120+ DPS who don't care about your threat.
