I was wondering if SE has addressed character restrictions on servers with the coming expansion. I am sure some of us may want to make completely new toons. With the current character restrictions that might not be possible. Also forgive me if this has already been addressed or this thread is in the wrong place.

This is as good a place as any to ask. And I agree with you that this needs to happen. Honestly, character creation restrictions should be account-based, not character-based. Meaning, if a player already has a character on a server, they should be able to create as many as they want. The fact of the matter is that no one account can play more than one character at a time anyway, so it's not that big of a deal.

What I did instead (ill-advised unless you don't mind giving SE money for optional services) was created a dummy placeholder character, got my free Fantasia from the Rank 1 Vet Reward, and once the expansion hits, I'll use both the Fantasia and the character rename service to acquire my Au Ra character.

Why would I want to leave the server with my FC and my friends?

On top of this, I think a FREE world transfer would be a nice idea. Give folks who want to get off the crowded servers the chance to do so. Granted if you own a house you're kind of stuck unless you sell it to someone, but not everyone owns a house (especially those on crowded servers who just couldnt get one before the slots filled up again), so I think this would be a nice gesture for the Expansion. And being that it would be a FREE transfer, entire FC's could make plans to move if they wished.

Why not try to create a new "placeholder" character now and you will have it ready when the expansion comes out. The new character will receive a fantasia item from the 30 day reward and will also receive a 2nd one if you are 1.0 account.

While it is not a direct solution to the housing issue (packed servers only), I think it would be an excellent indirect "we have a fix for you" option. As of now, you can either pay $20 to transfer off, abandon hundreds of hours of work and attachment, or just not be part of that content because the game cannot supply.

Should make an application set up, so they can review all the transfers and ensure half the server doesn't migrate and that people can transfer in teams (or FCs). With airships being added, a number of FC on Balmung cannot be part of another content, chocobo feeding, coloring, and gardening being a sustainable income - housing is not just a "vanity". I get that SE doesn't have the time to make an instanced based system at this second (but please do.. meets demands, less wasted resources over time, can have more customization), but a solution should be made available and only for small servers has one been made.

It would be a lie to say the issue is no more.

I like Hakuro's idea about account based restrictions vs character based restrictions, assuming the server doesn't have an actual character "saved" limit vs just an active limit. Can't have one account play two characters, makes sense.

To the OP and those with a similar issue, I wish you luck. As for making a placeholder character to change with free fantasia, I personally would wait until the official Au Ra naming conventions are revealed (if you care about that sort of thing). But, it never hurts to make one asap, just in case they wait too long to tell us. ;_;

I agree it would be nice to let people already on a server make additional characters, though. You can only log in with one at a time anyway.
