[dev1017] Confusion about Materia crafting system

    Sorry if this question has been asked (´・ω・`);

Based on the released information, the major concept of "Materia crafting system" related to enhancing equipments seems to be this scenario: A player usually uses one armor (say Armor-A) in battles, and "spiritbond value" increases on Armor-A with the usage of it in battles. When "spiritbond value" researches max, that player can transform Armor-A into a Materia, and the Materia can then be used to enhance the another armor (say Armor-B).

So here is what makes me confused... In the first place, the fact that one player usually chooses to use a specific armor implies the armor is the best one among all the others in the player's backpack. However, Materia crafting system then converts the armor that player use mostly into Materia, which means that player will lose his favor armor and get a Materia instead. It should be a reasonable thing that players want to enhance their best armors with extra values, not convert them into extra values and enhance the other armors.

Or, the motive of Materia crafting system actually asks players to earn "exp" on different armors to get Materia first, and then use the Materia to enhance their favor armors? This sounds like players have to "level up" armors after they finish their characters, and those armors are not the best ones players can use in battles. In other words, players are kinda forced to use some unfavorable armors in battles in order to get Materias...

The materia system, seems to be, first and foremost a way of consuming otherwise permanent items. With minor bonuses being transferable as a by-product.

Much the same way as WoW's disenchanting and enchanting skills.

Well it will be nice to know that some of the NM drops that are now obsolete for my character can live on in materia form. Cannot sell them so I was going to have to drop them. I can put my Kokoroon into my Solid Scale. Idealy I will need to put Solid Scale into Solid Scale but hey there is a limit to the amount of effort ill put into min/maxing.

Sure it's nice and convenient that players can convert no-long-needed equipments into Materia and use it to enhance their favor ones. However, what logically-fallacious is the Materia crafting system actually convert your favor equipments into Materia, because the way to earn "spiritbond value" is to use the equipments most of the time.

For example, you got Solid Scale and you like it so you use it often in battles. Then you can only earn "spiritbond value" on your Solid Scale, which means, you can only convert Solid Scale into Materia. If you want to earn "spiritbond value" in other equipments so you can then use those Materia on your Solid Scale, then you have to wear those other equipments in battles most of the time (even you don't like them or they have pretty bad status). Say if "spiritbond value" comes from a proportion of exp gain, then it just like now you need to spend extra time to "level up" multiple things other than your characters. What worse is, you have to wear those things in battles and you don't even like them...

I believe the point is to earn spiritbond value on your Solid Scale now, since it is the best, and then convert it into materia once it isn't the best anymore. They are constantly adding new gear into the game.

If the Materia crafting system is that simple one-to-one idea like you said, then it will be only needed once when new gears are released with new updates (like every 6 months or even more than a year). However, so far it doesn't look like this way...

It seems that players are encouraged to use this system to customize their favor equipments into different specific purposes. Say a GLA wants a defense-oriented Scale Mail for tanking HNM, so he needs to get one Scale Mail with the best defense status first and then attach defense-related Materia upon it. On the other hand, an attack-oriented Scale Mail may also be needed for farming or fast-clear purposes, then the GLA needs to get one Scale Mail with good attack status and attack-related Materia. If one armor can be attached more than one Materia (which can make players have more freedom to customize their purpose-oriented equipments), players are then required to spend extra time on the equipments other than their favor ones just for making Materia only.

In my opinion, using Materia on equipments to customize purpose-oriented ones is a very good idea. However, the earning spiritbond value and convert equipments into Materia part kinda doesn't make much sense except making players spend more time and energy to grind more points on multiple things...

I was under the impression that Materia will be used to enhance crafted armor.. Due to the devs saying that gear with materia augments are going to be sellable. With this in mind... the R/EX Armor sets that are dropped through various means can be converted to enhance Vintage Haubs and Mosshorn Scale Mails..I'm wondering if harvesting materia from gear will destroy the gear itself?.. the Devs also mentioned that certain armors and weapons will not be able to be augmented with materia.. I would like to hear some theories

Well this is a mmo, and mmo's are time sink country.

The thing that really excites me about materia is not the stat bonuses. But the impact there creation is going to have on the markets. Its going to take more items out of the liquid pool of gear then mint/nonmint condition gear ever did. And hopefully it will get things circulating again.

    right.

Now that gear will be going out o the system crafters will start making more money again. if i use my low level gear for stat boosts then i will have to make/buy more gear which will help crafters.

I can't remember but is/will there be armor for crafters/gatherers for materia? Or was it DoW/DoM only?
If so, i guess that would mean crafters/gatherers would have to earn spiritbond as well while doing their duties.

I actually like the thought of getting your spiritbond value up. It reminds me of FF9 or whatever.
