Returning player: what should I be doing?

Hello all,

I'm returning to the game from longer than one year away from it. At the time that I left I leveled up BLM and SMN to 50, and only got them both their Ifrit weps. I think it's safe to say that I'm quite far behind and quite undergeared.

I just renewed my subscription, logged in, and have absolutely no clue what I should even consider trying to do. Any suggestions?

I don't think I'm looking to get into hardcore raiding so what should I be doing it I just want to ease my way back in and have a good time?

Follow the main story quests.

Unlock side duties as you go, such as Tam-Tara (Hard Mode), etc. because they have interesting bits of info about NPCs that we encountered when we were at a lower level.

Did they add more main story? I thought I finished them all when I leveled my BLM to 50. I remember FATE grinding my SMN to 50 and I think my DRG is near 45 or so from FATE grinding too.

They add more main story every patch, so yeah there's a lot of story you'll need to catch up on.

Oh wow. That's very cool. Now I just have to figure out where the breadcrumb for the quest sequence are. Any ideas? I don't remember exactly when I stopped playing, however I can tell you I never got to the 60 day veteran reward and I starting playing on launch day. (Not sure if the first free month counted towards that counter)

The Main Story quests are usually in the Waking Sands (West Thanalan) from Minfilia. If you're stuck, you can check your last quest from the Journal. It should be under "Complete" then "Main Scenario Quests". From there, you can check the last NPC or area that you went to, and go back to him because the next quest will probably start from him. Or just look up that last quest in the Lodestone database and see if it has succeeding quests.
