PSN Maintenance is becoming an ongoing problem with playing this game.

I really enjoy this game but I don't know why I had to buy the PC version just to play this game. You guys really need to find a workaround to the PSN online requirement to login to your servers on the PS3 and PS4. I prefer to play this game on the console.

There is no workaround, Sony does not permit online play on the PS4 without routing through the psn servers for validation checks.

agree. while it may not be in Square's power, they are able to push towards it and possibly lean on Sony. they could nag them or something. they could tell us they are trying to convince them, SOMETHING. are they even trying ANYTHING at all? we don't know... they don't say anything.

and it affects more then just the validation process. when the PSN went down for maintenance i was immediately kicked from the FFXIV server. and couldn't get back in. actually, it IS possible to get back in during PSN maintenance. it usually takes me like 20 or so tries. but the very fact that is indeed possible to get the launcher to fully load during PSN maintenance, means that this so-called validation process is completely unnecessary. like how can a validation over an offline network occur? it can't... so how is it possible to actually get to log-in during maintenance?

It's a contractual thing. Sony requires it. They don't "request" or "prefer" it. Likely why we may never see it on a Micro$oft product like we did with XI. It totally knackers up the process the way these console companies want to run things through their servers for the extra authentication layers to prevent piracy and such.

And, it's nothing new. The PS2 suffered the same fate... except it was because the DNAS servers were crap.

my biggest concern is that if it was truly necessary... then how come it is possible to rarely be able to get through while PSN is down or under maintenance? again, it may take like 20 or so tries, but you CAN get through. is it just a fluke and we get super SUPER lucky to catch a moment where the network path is open for just like a split second? or is it actually bypassing this whole so-called authentication?

it just seems to me that because of this fact, the whole thing seems completely unnecessary. and i understand they want to prevent piracy. anyone who legitimately pays for their merchandise can agree we need safeguards against it. but is this actually effective? and to what end?
