[Suggestion] Linkable items in the chat window

    Hello,

To start I'd like to apologize if I did not post this in the right section and if this was suggested before.

With the addition of the item database on the forums (ok I know the ZAM database isn't up to date but let's pretend) I think it would be great if the items you loot and the items you have in your inventore could also have this feature so that you could put your mouse over the item name in the game and see the status window for that item.

For exemple, you are running a dungeon and someone gets a piece of armor in their loot list. Everyone sees the name of it but instead of having to ask the person if it's good for them and what the stats are you could just put your mouse over the item and see for yourself if it's something you'd like. (this could be also solved by having a common loot list and having to bid/pass on items)

Another exemple would be to link items to friends in the linkshell.

Anyways, this is just a suggestion among others to improve the interface and playability.

    comments?

Yes I would like to see this also, Rentahamster posted something similar to this a while back where it was suggested, not heard anything from the devs about it.

I hate current lot system... FFXI one was better :|

I suggest making a new one that's a combo of the two: now, when someone gets an item in their loot list, there are only 3 (?) options: Take, Trade, Discard. Why dont add a fourth one... "Share" or something like that... That puts the item in a shared loot (but the loot window is the same... maybe the shared item has a special icon or something like that) where everyone can "Cast lot".

This combo would be nice since:
    - FFXIV lot system is still there, nice for not so important items
    - FFXI shared cast lot system is there just after the player choose "Share", so that's nice for r/e equipment... (actually it's not that good when, for example, doing a dungeon run with non-LS players a XXX item drop -eg. GLA item- but ends up in a THM loot and he/she doesnt know who to trade it maybe because there are more GLA that need it)

We know that the ability to link items, as well as quests and maps, into the chat window is an extremely convenient feature, and while it would be very difficult to implement, we will do our best to research just how feasible it will be to introduce.

Wow ^^ thanks a lot for the reply Rukkirii! I hope we can do that someday, it's fun to see things our friends get and it's more convenient when loot drops in instances ^^

and yay for my 1st rep answer in one of my post!

Wow nothing against Rukkirii or the dev team but what does it say about this company that a feature from 2004 is "very difficult" to implement in this game?

    Nothing.

If they would have built the game with that feature in mind, it certainly wouldn't be a problem for them. But now they already have the complete code and adding stuff like linkable items may require to rewrite a huge chunk of it.

Thats what happens when you have an old ignorant noob at the top running the operation when he knows sweet fuck all about the actual product. And obviously gave up any sort of passion for his craft along time ago.

I think your coughed up the wrong name, Kam.

And let's once and for all dismiss this silly urban legend the fanboys created to re-balance their inner haters (not talking about you Kam, but the people that, a while back, decided Hiromichi Tanaka could not have been the one that screwed up the game, so they found the next-in-kin to blame, and invented a story full of back-office backstabbing to convince themselves.)

The only feasible culprit for this sort of pathetic oversight (which by the way, as we all know, is replicated thousandfold in the game's lackings) is Tanaka.

Wada, not precisely an innocent lamb, is a bureaucrat with a financial background (he was once Square's CFO!) that, frankly, could not have been within a mile of the game's code and system implementation. He has no background in system design, coding or game production; he never wrote a line of code, anywhere. That doesn't make him blameless in the FFXIV debacle, but certainly, we cannot blame him for the absence of essentials, like this, the game should have included no matter what.

Tanaka was always the ostrich-like fool, who thought it virtuous not to even try any of the world's other successful MMOs. He designed some good old games, but the world in which they were good changed, and Tanaka never noticed.

Again, this is yet another example of how Tanaka, Garriott, McQuaid, and quite a few others, the pioneers and parents of the MMORPG movement, failed to adapt to the technological leaps that the genre they helped create took as their initial successes aged. This is the typical case of the hero falling asleep amidst his laurels: Every MMO each one of those historic names created after their initial, successful one, was a monumental failure. Remember Vanguard and Tabula Rasa, and the rest?

Sorry but WoW didn't originally have these features built in from the beginning, its not any different.
