Is game missing long-term goal ?

I feel like you're asking the wrong question. Trying to stay up to date with your gear and crafting is a long term goal. It's just given to you in short chunks and the finish line keeps moving.

It sounds like what you're asking for is a long term reward. Something you work hard for but then don't have to worry about again for a long time. And no, this game doesn't really have that, unless you count housing.

And I actually prefer it this way. I like having the finish line constantly moved so that I always have something to strive for.
