In a way you are correct, as long term goals there are very few in the world of Eorzea to try and accomplish. However aside from crafting you neglected to mention that the relic at the moment is a very much long term goal for most players, yes there are those few who can complete the new step in anywhere from 1-2 weeks after release, but there are multiple people doing multiple relics, which restricts their goal to an even longer time frame.

Any who, the relic system is probably the best long term goals most people have right now. Though, like it's predecessor, I really hope we see new ultimate weapon lines to eventually open up for the jobs!
