Might be the most selfish thing I've ever heard here... No wait, nvmnd. I've heard worse on these forums, lol.

I don't know what I did to deserve such an insulting response from you when I wasn't even talking to you. Do you regularly butt into people's conversations just to shout insults in their face?

The fact of the matter is the current housing system involves limited amounts of real estate. They can either increase supply, which will lead to whole neighbourhoods of abandoned houses and defeats the entire point of the ward system, or they can ration the limited supply. To put it bluntly for you: if you do not play for a long period of time it is you who would be selfish by denying anyone else the opportunity to make better use of the plot of land that you have effectively abandoned. It's effectively cyber-squatting...

There are a LOT of very active players who want to buy a house but can't because they've all been bought already. Yet there are many known houses in every ward that are completely abandoned as the player that bought them left the game or the FC that owns it has been dissolved. Do you mean to tell me that I would be the selfish one to say that these players don't need their houses any more since they no longer play and instead allow someone that might actually use it to buy it? Personally I think it would make you the selfish one to think that you can hoard a plot of land you never have any intention of ever using again when plenty of other people would like one.

Think of it this way. IRL Until you pay off your mortgage, you need to pay off your house on a regular basis, depending on how you set up that mortgage. If you don't pay anything over a period of time the property is foreclosed and the bank, or owner of the land by all rights gets to take it without question since you owe them money.

In game yes we buy the plot in full, but the "mortgage" would be either having an active sub or being active over a set amount of time. If that set amount of time lapses you aren't "paying" that "mortgage" so the contents of the plot would be removed.

To add to that, depending on where you live the city can lay claim to your house if you let it rot for long enough becoming an eyesore to the community. To that extent if people don't keep up with their houses they lose them. Honestly if you put this to vote, I bet nearly 90% of the community would be okay with this, the other 10%? Imo they'd be out of their mind.

i've been wanting to bring this up for a while now but feel like people would just go meh this is a game game blah blah blah but this still rings true here. A permit can easily be issued in game for another house should you chose to renew your sub and log back on one day... yes you will not be able to get another house right off the bat because most will be bought out but lets be honest... why the hell are you even getting into something like housing (which is a long term investment of entertainment) when you get on and get off so often?

Should just do it EVE style: your wallet gets sacked every month to pay rent and if you don't have the funds to keep paying, welp, your stuff is up for grabs to any and everybody.

I find the Voucher idea and returning our items via the salvager a very good idea! I've been wanting to buy a house for sooo long but there are no small houses available anymore

Aww that's lame. I was hoping this house would go up for sale since:
    - no one has been online in the past 3+ months within that FC
    - the house is locked and cannot be viewed by random players
    - the house isn't being used
    - it's essentially "locked" to one player forever and becomes "dead space"

    So disappointing

I'm okay with this as long as a reasonable amount of time is given before you lose the house. Considering how hard it is for one to get a house in this game and if you're not quick you're out of luck I'd say it's fair if someone is inactive for that period of time loses their house as long as they get some sort of compensation for said house that'd make up for losing it.(implant a refund feature just for this situation) Things happen. We can't always prevent things from happening IRL from happening so, as a home owner, if I lost my house without getting compensated because something happened on my end and I've been unable to play then I'll probably be so angry that I probably wouldn't want to play anymore. Especially if I bought a medium/large house. I say 3 months is a good amount of time.

Even if SE doesn't want to do it EVE style, which I do think may be the best option. At least make it so that you'd have to log on to Mogstation once a month or something. I myself own a private house and I understand the need for making abandoned houses available to the market again.
