Out of curiocity what made you decide to change server

Just curiosity tbh. I've seen a lot of people moving servers back and forth. What is it that you looking for and why do you feel the NEED to change servers?

I love my server because even thou I'm a hard-core gamer in general I feel comfortable with it. I get stuff I have a laugh and of course find people to do raids. It never crossed my mind to change servers at all and never will. I've read somewhere that some people or fc are moving to other servers where there more people doing more end game stuff, but why don't these people stand out and make a difference rather than running to another server to be one more of the pile?

If you have a static SURELY you can compete against this end game raiders. A server doesn't make you better. It's a bit like me saying there's great players in China so I'm gonna move to China.

I've been playing MMOs since EverQuest back in 2000. I don't remember exactly when server transfers became a viable option, but I do remember the first time I ever transferred servers. They were doing mergers on the majority of the servers and you were allowed a free transfer off of the merge. At that time I had started losing real life and in-game friends and my gaming experience was becoming very lonely. Now, in EQ there were "serverwide" (across all servers) channels, and I had made several friends there. With the chance to jump ship, I tried finding a new life that I could have more friends in and to get a leg up on some content that I had been sorely lacking in.


Skip to 2015 and here we are in FFXIV, where transfers are relatively cheap and there are a handful of servers with defining qualities. I've done four transfers across the span of my time with FFXIV. The reasons? Exactly the same as the ones I had in EverQuest. MMORPGs are about the community, and I'd transfer again to be with people that make me smile and laugh.

Well in 1.0 I joined a LS who I loved, we all got on well and we were a family. When ARR opened I joined an Ragnerok with some friends but I just didn't feel right, it didn't feel like home, so I moved to Hyperion with my old 1.0 LS/FC and I have never felt better here.

I switched from a US server to a EU server because it was much easier to get groups during my primetime hours.. I started playing in 1.0, so there weren't any EU servers back then.

I know some folks who have changed servers to hang out with people they've met on Lodestone.
Other reasons I've heard:
RL friends are on another server
Heard good things about a certain FC
First server dying/low pop
Drama
Move for endgame progress
Only way to get into Balmung

I left my Japanese server to play with NA friends....I've regretted every day since then.....nothing against NA players but just culture shook.

I switched from a Japanese server to a NA one so it would be easier to communicate with other players and be able to ask questions in game.

The reason I changed over to where I am now is because I found that someone who I met in a previous MMO invited me to join him on his server. So I did.

Started on Typhon playing with Taiwan FC but time difference made it hard to do things together, since I lived in the US.

Moved to Mandragora since I had a few friends there from FFXI that decided to play on JP server, but they had their own static already - and I still have the time difference problem with JPs.

Finally settled on Balmung since it was where my friends FFXI chose for the EN server - some of them were legacy players.
