[dev1016] Removal of Crafting Facility and Treatise Requirements

I asked this in another thread, but once you get far enough along in a thread, it seems to get buried.

I was wondering what this meant? I don't understand what this change would mean? Are they talking about paying gil at facilities for temporary boosts? Are they talking about getting rid of the specialty books you buy with marks? If the latter, then what are marks for?

I was hoping for clarification on just that piece. I think I understand everything else they are going to do, good or bad. I'll leave the philosophical discussion to the other big thread.

Theres a lot of extra requirements that just make crafting difficult for someone starting out. It looks like they are planing to either auto incorporate some of the training stuff into normal leveling up and not be bought skills.

The most logical explanation for the droping of requirements for the facilities is because it means you can only really craft certain items when in a city and that means no field crafting even if you have all the items you need to make a craft. So if you were farming and crafting (like I did in XI when I was farming off beastmen items etc) you'd have to come back to town and do all the crafting in bulk and interrupt your farming.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

It would seem that you will no longer be required, at least for now, to be tethered to your nation's guild for certain recipes.

For example, I wanted to make some Iron Nuggets recently -- a Rank 14/15 synth depending on ingredients -- but couldn't because I was in Ul'dah and the synth requires Guild level support. So it would seem they're abolishing it to prevent things like this and to allow folks to synth wherever.

The treatises are the books purchased with Guild points. Another example: I recently tried to do the Ship Shape guildleve, but failed miserably because I didn't have Nail Casting.

    * Alternate uses are being considered for crafting facilities and treatises.
Hopefully they shift the focus from *essential for success* to *enhances success and HQ probabilities.*

"This synthesis would benefit from stronger facilities" = bye bye pretty much

So no more blowing up shiny boots because you didn't feel like grabbing guild support as for treatise... i have never crafted that high to even know wtf that is. @_@

Another example is the Goldsmithing guildleve you take in Limsa called 2 x 2 Eyes.

    http://ffxiv.yg.com/quest/2-x-2-eyes?id=120022

It requires Guild support which means you have to travel to Ul'dah just to complete a LL local leve (not so local then eh? ). Trust me, you won't be finishing that leve without some divine intervention if you don't have Guild GSM support!

I'm a crafter, and I would be really upset if they do away with the treatises for good. I spent quite a bit of time doing leves and getting guild marks so I could purchase these things and in doing so make crafting easier on myself. I'm also positive that I'm not the only one.

It has been my experience, however, that the treatises make the crafting easier at lower levels. Usually, if a particular craft kept failing it was because of low level, inadequate gear, or poor stat distribution.

Yeah, this was my thought too. I love leveling multiple crafts and benefiting from it, and I love that you can get training from guilds using guild marks to make things easier. I hope they bring this back as a requirement for certain things (perhaps just not for guildleves?), and not just for rank 50 people who by that point would have already got enough guildmarks for everything.

There goes half of the use for guildmarks for now. Can I choose gil instead of watching these paperweights pile up in my inventory?
