Best bet is to work your way through your +1 relic. Through that you'll pick up gears from some of the first lv 50 dungeons i.e AK , while accumulating tomes for buying your high end game gear. Once done with relic I would pace myself through a bit of the first coil, since you're a tank getting a que shouldn't be that hard, but I dunno I haven't done T1 in like forever so I don't know if it is still populated even with the flux of new players.

If you spam the level fifty dungeons unlocked after finishing the 2.0 story where you get the end credits, you can get better gear drops as well as tomes to purchase gear in Mor Dhona. You can also purchase gear from your Grand Company for company or allied seals from hunts up to ilvl 70

I would assume the quickest path to the highest gear level would be to aim to get to the new 24 man content in 2.5 next week. This would require completing the first 2 crystal tower instances whilst trying to gear yourself up. I'd recommend as mentioned above go for getting your relic zenith first as it is simple quick easy and will give you a decent item level 90 weapon.

You should be able to get into the labyrinth of the ancients at item level 50 so you should get in right away. By the time you have done that and the zenith relic you should have a few pieces of soldiery gear (bonus for first time completions on all the trials and labyrinth of the ancients will get you a lot of soldiery) You should be over item level 70 at that point and aim to complete syrcus tower once that is done I would estimate grinding out a few more pieces of soldiery perhaps get a few sand and oil from syrcus tower too and upgrade them to i110. I would estimate that in 2.5 the entry into the final phase of crystal tower will be at least item level 90.

Once you can go into the new content next week you should be able to pick up a new i120 piece a week plus upgrade any poetic tomestone piece you may have gotten to i130. After that it's just cap your weekly poetics and pick up a new piece of gear and upgrade item from the new crystal tower raid every week.

I would assume that is the path of least resistance because in syrcus tower you are unlikely to be noticed or ridiculed for being "lesser geared" as with 24 people your solo effort holds less weight on the total outcome of the entire raid.

Technically the quickest way of gearing up would be to run bahamuts coil turn 1-5 then once fully geared try and do 6-9. In theory you could gear up very quickly that way but as a new 50 that would require a lot of work and is extremely likely to come across a lot of annoyed people who don't enjoy newcomers.

He still has to spam som dungeons for the ilvl 54 needed for primals hard mode... (I think that's the ilvl needed) getting a couple soldiery accessories will help raise your ilvl pretty quick.

This is true but ifrit is 49 Chimera, Hydra and garuda is 52 and titan is 57, you also have to run castrum/praetorium before starting the relic and amdapor keep. With the first time soldiery bonus you should be able to push yourself above 57 anyway.

Amdapor keep has no item level restriction entry and I would expect it if you was a bit short for titan you could, run Labyrinth of the Ancients, item level 50 entry to get more than enough soldiery to put you over the edge, not to mention any gear that drops.

Well, here's a reference for everything you have access to now that you're 50.

Your main objective is to start raising your iLvl. Tomestones are the easiest source of that for body gear, which you'll gather passively (as well as the drops you collect doing dungeons) and your A Relic Reborn quest is best for getting yourself a weapon (I suggest completing it and then doing the step to upgrade it once more than that for sure - it's a relatively painless i90 weapon, which is still sufficient for about 80-90% of postgame content; by the time it comes time to replace it you'll have access to methods to do so easily).
