The real Enkidu

I posted this back on my tumblr as well as on my FB but forgot all about here. Will see if I am wrong when patch 2.5 hits but I'm for a certain this is the real Enkidu. I recognized the mob design and kept scratching my head "where have I seen this before?" and then it dawned on me. In FF5 there were monsters called Abductors that looked like this creature. However one of the green ones fought beside Gilgamesh and was named Enkidu. So now it makes even more sense that this is the real Enkidu. Because recalling back to when you first meet Gilgamesh a "demon bird" stole his lance when he set it down. He also said that he traveled with Enkidu but he couldn't find him so he found a chicken and painted it green and called it Enkidu. It's quite obvious now that it's all in the light but I know some would expect the real Enkidu to be a dog like in FFXII but they took Gilgamesh from his original FF5 appearance so it's only fitting they give him the original Enkidu as well.

Yeah well there is 'real' Enkidu and there is real Enkidu. The actual real real Enkidu was a human(oid) figure who was serving Gilgamesh back when he was a king in the backstory of Type-0. He is long dead by the time Gilgamesh is encountered there. Sometimes Enkidu is absent, sometimes he looks like a dog, sometimes a bird monster and sometimes he is implied to be a humanoid(he wrote a letter in FF9). Obviously Gilgamesh finds something green in every world the rift takes him and names it Enkidu. He might be especially attached to these demon birds as the first replacement Enkidu was one as well (If we accept the likely route of Type-0, XI, V).

Neither were truly in FFXI, but their names were 'borrowed' in other ways - Gilgamesh was a grizzled old hume NPC in Norg connected to the Rise of the Zilart expansion pack and unlocking the SAM Job - he pretty much had zero connection to the 'real' Gilgamesh (in fact, the only similarity was the fact he was a SAM and used great katanas). Enkidu on the other hand, was a 'doll' NM (a type of ancient robot), that appeared in the Tu'lia zone (there was also a set of equipment called 'Enkidu's' equipment (it was a harness set that only DNCs, MNKs and THF could equip).

I wouldn't count what is stated in a spin off title as gospel though - Gilgamesh and Enkidu first appeared in FFV and in fact all their real appearances in other FF games since directly reference back to that - from their boss fights and BGM to Gilgamesh's multiple arms all wielding different swords, to getting the Genji gear and the Masamune katana from him, and Enkidu as Gil's sidekick/companion. And even Gilgamesh's travelling of the Void. All this directly references their original FFV appearance. Anything stated in Type O would just be fanservice referencing back to FFV itself really.

Well dunno, under the armor in Type-0, he looked pretty much like he did in XI, when he got the warpaint is anyone's guess. i'm still sticking to this version.

A demon bird stole his lance and it was also what scared that girl carrying that old vase. However, why would Enkidu seal Gilgamesh's lance if they're friends? I do recall Gilgamesh saying that he hasn't seen him in many moons so he tamed a chicken and painted it green because he was lonely/bored.

Bingo. Answer: He isn't Enkidu, just a monster looking like the first replacement Enkidu he had in V. Obviously he didn't have an Enkidu since he arrived(or even before that if he came directly from 8 or 13-2) so he went with the green chicken. Makes me wonder if this Enkidu will even help him at all.

I was pretty convinced that this is the FFXIV interpretation of Adrammelech. He has the color scheme and the goat ears.
