Please make the in-game Au Ra (Males) more muscular, reflective of the Artwork

There has been some criticism for the female version of the new race, the Au Ra. Some people think that they are too pretty. Will we be able to make them more monster like?

With the Au Ra, this includes both female and male, the emphasis during character creation is on the horns. You'll be able to focus heavily on creating the horns. The face structure, for this race, is a little different than what you're currently familiar with. There is a certain direction that isn't really reptilian, but more succubus-like, or demon-like.

When we were considering the options, there were mentions of making female Au Ra more stocky and buff. However the data that's been complied about what race and gender are being used, indicate that Hyur Highlander females and Roegadyn females are not used by very many players. We definitely took that into consideration when finalizing the design of female Au Ra. To reiterate though, there is the option to make her more demon- or succubus-like.

Funnily enough, some months ago I joked about the succubus being the true form of the Au Ra.

So... does this mean that Au Ra are actually closer in relation to demons and not dragons? Because I really want to see those 'Au Ra are Shiva's descendants!" speculations crash and burn (because it's stupid). It would also make a lot of sense as to why Yugiri would hide her appearance, especially if she looks similar to a succubus. If she just looked like a Hyur with horns, then she'd just be assumed a Padjal or humanoid beastman. But similar facial structure to a succubus? That's a very decent reason to hide her appearance (Lady Amandine, Lambs of Dalamud, Halicarnassus, the succubus that can use Demonize, etc).

-of course, this still doesn't change my opinion towards them. Just helps me see a valid reason as to why she should hide her appearance to the general public (who are perfectly fine with mingling with some of the Beastmen).

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to pop in and give a tiny update on the Au Ra. I'm still not allowed to reveal a lot (under punishment of defenestration...and we're on the 18th floor), but here are three things I can tell you:

1. What is the official pronunciation of Au Ra again?
Those of you who've already seen the Fan Fes videos will probably already know, but it's always good to have something in writing somewhere, just in case. Despite the similarity in spelling Au Ra does not sound like "aura." The official pronunciation is Au=Ow (as in "ou"ch) Ra=Raw (as in WWE sushi).

2. Hyur is Hyuran. Lalafell is Lalafellin. What on Earth Hydaelyn is the adjectival form of Au Ra?
This one's a little special. Instead of just tacking an 'n' to the end of Ra, the term takes on a slight metamorphosis. Au Ra -> Auri (pronounced Ow-ree, rhymes with Maori). Example: "An Auri warrior can eat a whole turkey in a single sitting."

3. When are we going to get a naming guide!? I need to start thinking of what I'm going to call the new character I roll in June!
The naming rules for both clans have been finalized and work is being done fleshing out the lore behind it all. Things will be somewhat similar to what was done with the Hyur (drawing from historic names) but the with the regional and linguistic roots being completely different. Surnames will also feature a special set of rules that can be followed to the T, or slightly modified if a player wants to be adventurous.

I will be adding a detailed (sticky) explanation right here to the forums once Yoshi-P has given me the green light...which hopefully will be sooner than later!

They already mentioned the customisation for this race will have a much wider array of settings.

It's not that the concept art is more muscular either its just much more disproportionate, (waist and shoulders), I doubt asking for a change at this point in development will get you anywhere either so its not even worth mentioning.

Proportions are everything, though, and the males look a *LOT* like Elezen, just with better animations. It's probably too late for a change, but we've still not entered Beta yet, so while unlikely, it's *possible* the might consider minor alterations. Also, broader shoulders are hardly "disproportionate", it's simply a more muscular silhouette -- one that would actually separate them from the other races.

Why make another thin, svelte race, when there's such a massive gap between Roegadyn, and everyone else? Keep the "pretty" faces and thin waste, but I want a character who looks like he could actually hurt somebody, even without a weapon.

That's... interesting. Are Au Ra even dragonkin at all? Maybe they're not remotely draconic and are demonic...

That actually makes sense, given that they look more "goat" than "dragon". I still think the theory of being descendants of the original Saint Shiva are totally credible, but it's interesting to consider they might be closer to demons.
