The party system for the chocobo does need a bit work. One thing that I can not figure out why (unless I missed it). If I forget to dismiss the bird before I port back to my house,I cannot with draw him from the party while in residential district. I have to go back out and dismiss him then re-enter. I don't see what the problem is either with having your chocobo while waiting for the DF either. I know alot of people wait a long time for the DF to pop, so it would only make sense that you are going to go off and do something else, possibly involving your chocobo. Some weird systems in this game that don't make much sense.

Retainers, well if my miner retainer brings back one more striped goby, she coming to my dungeon and getting a spanking. Retainers seems like they need much overhaul. My miner bring back fish and my fisher brings back stone (quick ventures). One did bring back a Lala stepstool, so if I ever have one for dinner, it'll be easier to lure them into the oven.

Actually, you *can* withdraw your chocobo while in a city or housing ward.
If you go to your abilities menu and put the Withdraw (under companion) ability on one of your hotbars you can make him withdraw even when he is not visible.

That being said I fully agree with the nuisance of not being able to queue with choco's. I guess they wanted the chocobo to feel like a true companion and as such made him a party member. They probably didnt take the queueing thing into account. The issue is that it'd require a redesign of the whole chocobo system (and how they earn exp etc, because now they earn it as a party member). While it's most likely quite doable it'll take some work and need careful planning as it might also cause unbalance in open world events (a party of 8 with 8 chocobo's would likely be stronger than intended for instance).
