    I don't think its at NGE levels lol, but its the same style of move.
    lamo I remember it so well, forum accounts killed, players removed from outside Cornelia(?) star port by a GM.. (only to be back several minutes later)
    That was the most epic way to cul a playerbase ever in mmo history.
    But yes they did similfy the crafting then, and whole towns where people had been crafting empty, but again i don't feel its that bad.

    Or they could find a way to take out the tediousness. id be happy just making parts and selling them on, others want to make that +3 whatever end item.. Some just want to kill mobs and pay/trade others for the work (me really).
    Yes to remove the tediousness they need big changes, not a almost 50% removal of the crafted item database.

    This could massively force prices down unless they slaughter the drop rates.
    ...which would be actually most welcome. Right now, after 1 hour of playing my inventory overflows with a stupid amount of worthless drops. But less drops = more value to each drop = more interesting to sell these drops = less NPC'd drops = less inflation... did I miss something?

    No if they do it that's one thing. But we would still have to wait for the massive surpluses to clear.
    What will they do with DoL, max 1 item pre success, no more more then 1-2 shards per mining/logging/fishing spot.

    An then then need to balance out the massively lower income for new players vs the probably tens of billions the current community have. Along with the more market orientated people who will stock what they have now for sale later.
    (I've made so much money doing that on EvE its untrue)

    you just proved my whole point exactly. The majority of crafters have your mind set. they avoid making finished products and just mass produce parts that nobody wants to use. This leaves the wards flooded with parts but no finioshed products for everyone else. DoH have this mentality that they are not a service class, This is SEs fault for giving them the delusion that they are main classes alongside battle classes. It was impossible to do this and SE is just now figuring it out. Making DoH and L main classes like they are just made everything in the game boring. You guys whine that non crafters dumbed down your crafting system but how bout all the really lame story line mission battles that were dumbed down extremely so you could complete them? While this may not be the right move for some hardcore crafters, it is the right move for the future of the game.

    This overhaul is a ridiculous overstep. There is no need for half these changes at all. Especially the removal of sub crafts and facilities. The crafting system is already mind numbingly easy. In fact the number one complain I see is that its too easy. Then comes it takes to many ingredients. I have not ever seen anyone complain about having to use a facility or a secondary craft. I'm starting to believe Yoshi's only real design philosophy is "Let's make this game so easy no one will ever have to try."

    I do like the Dye changes and the simpler recipes, but it does not justify dumbing down and already dumbed down system.

    Horrible Idea.

    Amazing plans for recipe changes, this is very welcomed. All the parts and second class requirements is one of the things that have kept me from leveling a craft class until the changes were in.

    I have already read in the thread some of the "That other game does it this way and its better, this game is doomed". As the system is right now, on complicated recipes, most of the time is not fun to do the synthesis, this is supposed to be a game where you have fun, not a chore. The biggest complain this game had, at the beginning was that, everything felt like a chore and not a game.

    Materia system is coming along also, which will add another layer of complexity to synthesis. I am sorry to say, Yoshida has already indicated crafting will be a secondary approach to the game, like it should have been from the start, the only reason crafting was so complicated is because the previous team devised them as full classes.

    Again good changes, simplification is key to have fun. We already have jobs we need to worry and take care of in real life, I dont need that when I log in to FFXIV. If I am a crafter, when I log in I want to be able to have fun while I craft, thats the main reason for these changes.

    I'm not sure whether or not these changes are a good or bad thing. But I think a lot of you guys are blowing it out of proportion. You guys keep saying that it will effect the gatherers well then SE will change something in favor of them. (Like changing the price of pre-made NPC bought yarns..ect. making them more expensive so people want materials from gatherers more. Or reducing the drop rate slightly on pre-made items. Not really sure how that's a huge deal. Maybe they can up the drop rate on materials to counter act that change).

    There are so many different ways to change things that this one change isn't the say all end all. And those that are thinking of quitting maybe you should give it a chance. Did you really play all this time just to leave all your hard work behind cause your having a hissy fit over a change that can be changed?

    Your right on the mindset to a point i think, but a lot of people like to be rich in games.
    These people do make the +1/2/3 items.
    The problem is the Level system used on the items, Hi end crafter's have no reason to by low end materials.
    If the copper/brass/oak/willow items were put to use in end game items, the need would be sustained.
    Meaning they sell.
    (seriously take a look at item production chains in EvE, that proves it works, and it would be an easy model for SE to adapt new game items into using those lowbi crafter resource to revitalise the market)

    (this is not my Answer its just an example of a possible approach)
    Yes crafting should be a lesser main job along with DoL
    But not to the point of generic mmo's where it means nothing at all really.
    If limitations on mastering a class were added so these new itmes could only be done by masters and you can only master say 3 types of item/weapons tops were put in.
    The amount of SP required to level was reduced i think it would improve the market much more then what is currently on offer.
