At the end of the day it is a business and they have to make FFXIV profitable or just shut it down. There is only for so long you can dump resources into MMO and keep it free.
About the same time you understand that for a hell of a lot of other people, its more the Huge amount of missing content (some which was said would be here post beta), lack of story, clunky UI, missing travel systems, lack of end game, lack of customisation, gear, housing, quests yada yada yada..
Not oh the crafting system and such are complex that is what people have mainly complained about, and getting the bad review since oh what, Beta?

Comparing FFXIV changes to NGE really? shows how far people are from reality.

All the issues you listed also included complains about crafting system. It was not a separate but one of the problems. If it was working as intended there wouldn't be changes to it.

You know what else this suggests? I can't think the team is very proud of this new patch, if they were they would have started talking about it earlier. Shoving the notes slowly into our faces days before the patch is out, instead of making note of it in letters explaining weeks down the road what they're planning to do with the synthesizing system does not sound like happy decision making.

It sounds lazy, rushed, and not even CLOSE to thought through. Just like the battle system was, just like future patches are likely to look like.
    And why?
Because you crazy mofos don't know when to stop asking for things that don't need to be fixed right this minute.
Actually I'm going to defend the Dev team here, a lot of what they are doing is clearly though out, and based off the feedback they have.
The combat is almost exactly what people talked about, i never wanted Auto attack myself, most did, and its a mmo, the majority have to rule.
yes it stil needs work to make it more rewarding and challenging, but other then that its what most people said they wanted.

This patch i'm not so sure about, most detailed reply's have been against this really, but more so mainly against just 1-2 parts and ok/for the others..
The only pro comments mainly site more inventory space, and easier crafting as the reason.
Ok less space is true, easier well, less items to memorise yes, less effort to be sure of a success yes, but the system is the same as it is today.

The crafting system was one of the most convoluted and broken crafting systems I've seen implemented in a MMORPG. I'm glad they are finally addressing it.

And please stop using "realism" as an argument, when you use crystals imbued with elemental properties to magically clump materials together into a finished product. Fun should always come first over realism.

Edit: And I mean explained in detail, and not just teased. We thought they meant knocking down a few culinary recipes or dyes, not the removal of half of the items created by each crafting class, ie the parts.
You don't seem to understand that crafting has moved from parts to full pieces. And if you can't understand why sudden waves of easily completed pieces are going to be an issue, then you're in for a treat.
I'm no doomsayer or whatever it is you're calling them, but here is what I predict.
If you don't have a +3 anything, you're not prepared.
If you didn't +3 a piece, try try, and try until it's useful.

They're slowly degrading, and I don't think it will stop here, a system to the point where now being a crafter is almost laughable.
    Lazy lazy lazy Yoshida.
I don't know what is more obnoxious people like me or people like you who think that FFXIV devs don't have the right to make changes to their game. Afterall, it is not a charity and they have to try everything to take FFXIV out of the current mess. it is sad that players like you are so selfish and self centered with their own demands that they fail to look at the bigger picture. Unless you are hoping for Yoshi to be next to get fired after Tanaka? he has to try everything. Some changes you may like some not.

And it is true, how do i know if they will rake money after these changes? do you? nope. But unless they make changes no one would. It is lot better then doing nothing because in current condition FFXIV surely is not a profitable venture. Why do you think they are holding on charging you monthly fee because they love you so much?

I just think more practically and try to put myself in shoes of FFXIV devs and i can understand the reason behind these changes.

Our crafting system was very realistic in needing all the different specific parts for a certain piece of gear. I’ve said it myself too that its a pain to gather them all up to make one piece of gear. But its fun for the meticulous. With this change the class is being dulled down way too much. Lessening the difficulty lessens the achievement. I fear as though this will severely hurt the entertaining feeling of being a crafter. Thinking about all those materials that will become obsolete. I feel as if crafting will become less of a favorable choice among players. I liked the fact that this game had 3 separate aspects of game play; Crafting, Gathering and Fighting. They all should be equally as entertaining so everyone can enjoy themselves no matter what they choose to do. Crafting may still have everything i fear that will be lost. But, it seems like how the OP said, it will just turn into another thing to do instead of a lifestyle. I enjoy the idea of "Crafting is for the crafters", its not for everyone. Taking away the complexity of a system only hurts the dedicated loyal activists.

Im against the removal of parts.
This man said it for me.
I'm not sure what would be the point of linkshells like the one I made back in the day (The Craftsmen Coalition).

Coloring needed to be modified, levels re-checked.

Crafting is no longer full-time in my eyes, just a side like in any other generic MMO.

Didn't they say they'd get rid of the progress bar somewhere?

Ah, how sad. How very sad. C'est la vie, I'll just wait with a broken heart, hoping for the best...

Because it will be massive win no matter what SE do, am I right? This shows how far you are from reality. SWG was successful, it has 1m copies sold. It was far more successful then FFXIV crappy launch, you don't see Sony waiving fee for almost one year. It was on the declining, but given their brand name, their launch, their position nothing could have gone wrong with NGE, am I right? They even have an expansion to go along with NGE! Everything was perfect, all they needed to do was making it more casual friendly and tons of people would be flocking to it like sheeps! And what happened, pray tell.

I never said I was against changes, but I can see you're above reading through the entire thread so I'll put it in as few words as possible.
They clearly did not, or refused to, write about (And not just Yoshida) their decision making when it came to this. Since it affects their players, I'd say this is a pretty severe lack of communication which they promised more of.
Giving the patch notes to a serious change like this days ahead of the patch is not what I call cooperative. It's kind of sneaky really.
Notice how quite a few people have offered changes they could have made, which are equally good.

You are accepting of any change whether or not it is good or bad just because it was made on behalf of the Dev team? Refusal to ask questions or accept a different opinion is rather disappointing of someone willing to stick with the game. What would it take for the devs to do, to ask about their decision making?

They are not Gods, they make mistakes, and this patch is just pure lazy BS.

There i gave you a 'LIKE' so cool down. There is a thing called player feedback and they will get it soon. But unless they make changes they would never know the reactions. And it is too soon to jump on 'i hate it' bandwagon. In the end if majority is happy it will stay or they can roll back changes. I look at FFXIV like an extended beta where they are constantly trying to make changes to see if it will sit well with players or not. And yes i trust in these devs more than i trusted in Tanaka.

That is why i will try these new changes and give feedback in appropriate manner instead of jumping the gun.

Again no one knows what players like or dislike unless they make changes to all the core features of the game. it is hell a lot better then doing nothing. As far as comparing it to NGE like you sad SWG was successful and FFXIV wasn't. Which MMO according to you demands more desperate attention and changes?

That is why comparing it to SWG was a bad idea. However, i also find your comparison funny considering that FFXIV is anyways going under NGE whether you like it or not. The new dev team is making changes to all the core features of the game and that is the sole reason why they brought Yoshi in. What were you expecting? the new dev team will leave everything as it is and just put band aids here and there?
