Expansion on PS3

For some of the later trials (Titan and T5 in particular) there are many reports of slow rendering on the ps3 making the fights significantly tougher. So it can/does effect gameplay in certain scenarios.

I played FFXIV on the ps3 for a bit. I'm telling you now. If you can, you should really look into getting a ps4. The performance enhancement is like night and day. Graphics aside...the game just plays a hell of a lot better on the ps4.

Yoshi Did talk about Dropping Ps3 Support some time after the first Expansion so eventually you will have to Upgrade to a Ps4 or PC if you wish to continue to play.

And I believe they are still offering the Free Upgrade to Ps4, so if you can afford it, I would just Upgrade now.
