here is a slightly revised planning for you ^_^As what I would do is, week 1 of the patch unlock experts new WoD and some of the lesser quests, eg post moogle quests and start main scenario.
Week 2, finish main scenarion, week 3 do Odin and the mystery trial, week 4, do hildibrand (while capping tomestones, raiding etc. then week 5ish pops for the next patch 2,51.
While maybe not as satisfying as the one you wanted to do, it should be satisfying enough hopefully![]()

I enjoy the main scenario and always rushed to do that first so that I could see the story. The fact that there are dungeons now doesn't bother me since I would do MSQ first regardless.

Now, wait a minute... so people are complaining that if they stopped playing for a few months, they have to *gasp* catch up before they can have the same routine (doing EX roulette) than people who haven't left ?
That's about the same as asking to be level 50 as soon as you buy the game and skip the main scenario altogether.
There's a reason why it's called the MAIN scenario... it's because it should be the first thing you do whenever a new patch comes out.
It really isn't that hard to do the main story. In fact, it's quite easy and enjoyable.

Its a Final Fantasy first and an MMO second (IMHO) and it is more based around the story than other MMO's so no, I do not think they should change this. It keeps everyone on the same page for the lore and if you choose, you can skip the cutscenes and click through the text. For those that choose to skip, its your choice but you are the ones missing out. It's just a way of gating the content that is at least a bit more interesting than "walk to dungeon keeper, accept quest, complete quest, earn dungeon." Shiva was much more interesting because of this than any content I did in WotLK expansion for WoW. Again, this is just one persons lowly opinion.
Aside from the obvious points already made about the central importance of the story to the game, there's also the reason that the roulette exists in the first place: to help less-than-elite players through these dungeons. Not only will people be wanting to run it to see the story, but they may also run it to gear up or gain levels. Even though you may have gotten everything you needed from it in the first week, the incentive of the roulette exists to help the people who didn't.

It does irk me though for entirely different reasons. I've always been content with unlocking the dungeons and learning them so i could do them at my descretion later on. I'll typically not do roulettes cos I don't want to be stuck in a dungeon I don't like. Instead I would que for the ones I do like and stick with those. Having a dungeon in the main story irks me for two real reasons.
1) Now I feel forced to do the main story as fast as possible if the dungeon itself is interesting to me. Something I don't like at all, I've always liked doing Hildibrand first and exploring sub content and doing the main story quest together with my friends. I don't like feeling I /have/ to skip or change how I like to go about playing thorough the games content at all.
2) I don't like the idea of forced dungeons at all for main story. Raid progression and gear progression are another thing. The story can be told just as well without shoehorning players into a dungeon they may or may not want to do. New players and people that want to just farm it. Didn't SE learn this from all the arguments and fighting in the Castrums?
I would, in my opinion, prefer, if they made the dungeon added to the main scenarion not as a pre-req to unlock expert roulette, but when you clear it it gets added to the dungeon pool. So, you don't want to do the main scenario as soon as it lands? Unlock the other 2 dungeons and do roulette, albeit you only get put into one of the two. When you get past that stage in the main scenario that dungeon ten gets added to your Expert roulette pool.
Evaddragon. its nothing about "catching up" or skipping anything, it's about allowing players to pace the content over the patch cycle as they wish without being locked out of anything else.
I cap Poetics twice a week, once on main, once on alt. I'm also all upto date on alt with present content. Havn't done FCoB on her though, only thing I'm missing. Hopefully start soon. Ilvl 117 SCH alt, ilvl 126 MNK main.
Once upon a time it worked this way. Once upon a time people only unlocked the dungeons THEY wanted so those were the only ones they would get in the roulette. It was changed to the current system because those people abused it. It won't be returning because of those people who ruined it for everyone.
I hate/love it. Hate: I hate it because it forces you to play thru the main story in order to reopen up EX DFs and others. This causes you miss out on the extra tomes you could've earned. Thus making you miss capping tomes the first week of the new patch. Love: because it ties the main story with the rest of the patch. In all I mostly still hate it.....heres looking at you Drangon's neck.
