Can you guys allow us to strafe on a controller without having to go first person and not see the playing field? This gives a clear advantage to PC users.

You can, either pressing in the left stick, you'll lock on and be able to strafe, just as well you can switch the camera controls under settings to I think it's legacy? There are two different camera settings
There are two ways to do this:
- for legacy controls, press down the left stick. This enables 'lock on' and makes you strafe around the target. You have to press again to unlock if you want to dodge/do mechanincs though, which takes a bit of practice.
- switch off legacy controls entirely. This way your character will always face the direction your camrea is pointed at. If you want to effectively want to run away from your target though, you have to turn the camera in the direktion you want to move.
I'll suggest to try both and use whatever feels more comfortable for you. It's highly recommended to learn one of the two expecially if you're playing a melee class because of auto attacks. Hope that helps.
lock on target is a pain, i wanna just use strafe on controller without lock on and in legacy mode
Then you're out of luck. theres always been an advantage to KB and mouse, this being one of them, if you dont like to swap between lock on and not locked on, switch otherwise, you cant do much about it.
While this game has a very small gap between KB and mouse over controller advantage there are a few things.
Edit: You could get a controller that has additional buttons and map the Q and E Button to them for strafing, but im not 100% Sure that works with XIV's keybinds or not, someone would have to confirm or deny this.

Why strafe will make you better? O.o Using legacy is enough and tbh I don't like the strafe movement at all. I main mnk and can do around 550 DPS without strafing. Are you going to tell me if i could strafe I would get 600? Though I do 600 with Selene :x
You are a monk, not a bard...
Everyone knows strafe you ll not lose auto attacks

it may not go up to 600, and as i said its not a huge advantage but you do miss auto attacks occasionally when moving around without Strafe.
Also for Soul jacker, the control scheme is definately there, but going to half speed to walk backwards sux butts if you wanna dodge back wards without turning your entire camera around.
^^ this..............
I don't need to lock on to strafe. I use a controller on the PC version on occasion, and left\right on the stick functions just like a strafe. In order to change the direction my character moves in, I must use the right stick to change the camera angle.
I don't remember the exact settings I have, but mess with the legacy controls. The functionality you are looking for is there. You will need to combine it with the right stick to circle strafe if you don't want to lock on, but the functionality is definitely there.
