Ha! You're just excited that you Dragoons finally have your pet back.

I don't think this is the case, but... that'd be awesome if it was.
Well, it kind of fits in with the lore.
Hydealyn is no longer watching over us. Our powers have been revoked by Midgardsormr. But doing so, he realised that we were chosen by Hydealyn, not born or gifted with our powers of the Warrior of Light. Our Protector is now Midgardsormr. In a cut scene, the Dragon Minion is clearly is him, as he summons himself and speaks to us in the Rolling Stones. So he's now our protector, resurrected as a Dragon, can summon himself, move, talk, yet doesn't possess the ability to grow?
Look at the feet of both Dragons as well. Both red.

Furthermore, Midgardsormr did state that his minion form was temporary. It wouldn't be unreasonable, considering a dragon of his size, to grow into the size of the mount in such a short time.Well, it kind of fits in with the lore.

Yup. And when the Dragon mount was first announced at a FanFest (I think london), he said that the name of the Dragon is a secret. Why would they need to keep the name of a pet Dragon a secret, unless it had potential spoilers? Dun dun dun!

I if they plan on making minfilia into the host of Hydealyn?

As soon as Yoshida said that, I shouted Holy hell, it's Midgardsormr! at Fusionx, but I didn't want to say too too much on the forums until after 2.5, just in case, lol. I still don't quite get why he'd strip us of the Blessing if he's in league with Hydaelyn, though. He knows far more than we do, so is he simply preventing us from using the Gift against the dragons before we know certain truths? Or is he going about his aeons of work as per usual and viewing us as a curiosity along the way? Are we being tested?

Maybe losing Hydaelyns blessing was actually a blessing? If that back crystal was actually dark hydaelyn/zodiark....can you imagine what'll happen to that crystal's "chosen"? maybe us being slightly tempered by her isn't too farfetched afterall

It's interesting that both Bahamut and Midgardstromr use the same "spear of light" to temper (or at least in our case, strip the blessing of light).
I've always thought the Crystal shown at the end of 2.0 was Hydaelyn. The Ascians purposefully built us up over 2.0s storyline to the point where Lahabrea could throw Ultima at us, several times Ascians showed up and practically went "Nah, we want you to get more powerful with this crystal!", the Lahabrea throws Ultima at us so Hydaelyn has to protect us. Following that he claims her power is spent. Conclusion? Their aim was to weaken Hydaelyn. While the effects were not instantly noticeable (we then defeat Lahabrea), Hydaelyn then basically vanishes at the end after the vision of the Dark Crystal.
What is the Ascians goal? Summoning Zodiark. What does summoning require? Crystals. What is Hydaelyn?
I can totally see Midgardsormr taking us under his wing (hehe) instead of Hydaelyn to protect us from whatever is happening to Hydaelyn.
I'm thinking perhaps Yoshida is continuing the Final Fantasy VII homage, though much more subtly;
- Aeris, last of the Ancients (strong connection to the planet), helping group fight off an alien thing and its kinda-son, impaled in a structure under a lake, losing the party the White Materia and returning to the Lifestream. Witness the White Materia being corrupted (or bathing in jam, not sure) before the finale.
- Derplander, chosen of Hydaelyn (basically the planet), helping the Scions fight off the Ascians who may or may not be of this world, impaled in a structure above a lake, loses his connection with Hydaelyn but gets back up. Witness Hydaelyn in purple in a pained vision.
