Well, perhaps it's just a sign of the alien nature of the FFXIV dragons. They're essentially a hive mind, if I recall. I doubt they have a notion of 'innocent'.That and from a heroic standpoint the dragons have never shown discrimination in their war towards innocents. While the Dragons might not be the 'bad guys' of the war, they are just as guilty of wanton slaughter. If we question why we protect Ishgard, the same can be asked about Limsa who are guilty of starting the war with the Kobalds.

Which we do. Y'shtola right out says the actual right thing to do would be to let Titan stomp Limsa into the sea. That and from a heroic standpoint the dragons have never shown discrimination in their war towards innocents. I also kinda doubt the Ishgardians are selective about the dragons they themselves kill, like hatchlings or unhatched eggs. Mind you, that doesn't excuse the dragons for doing the same, but I suspect that will be one of the points to be adressed in Heavensward. At least I hope so.

Me too. I'm hoping our role won't be as simple as taking sides and be more about stopping the war. The story has indicated we need the full Eorzean alliance to stop what is likely coming from Garlemald next, particularly since it's the emperor now who is driving the likelihood of invasion, and that means we need an intact Ishgard in place. More over, it seems very likely that the whole war is being encouraged by the Ascians. Hell, they may have even been involved in starting it in the first place. I wouldn't be surprised to see them on both sides.Which we do. Y'shtola right out says the actual right thing to do would be to let Titan stomp Limsa into the sea.

Ishgard doesn't exactly easily filter out its civilians vs Military targets so claiming that the dragons are attacking innocents wantonly is debateable. That and from a heroic standpoint the dragons have never shown discrimination in their war towards innocents. SO after reading the advert for Heavensward after it was put up for pre-order on one of my Australian stores I buy from... "Betrayal has driven the Warriors of Light to seek sanctuary behind the hallowed walls of Ishgard – a city-state mired in a thousand-year conflict with the dragons of the Dravanian Horde. Can our heroes uncover the ancient truths buried in Ishgard’s bloody history and help bring an end to the Dragonsong War? Can the Warriors of Light cast off the shadows that darken the realm?"
I already have my assumptions on who this betrayal is set to come from... It is he of the Scions

I wonder if they'll pull another Shanttoto on us and maybe have have Y'shtola (and her sister y'mithra) be the one to betray us. Due to her also being heavily featured in other games it would make sense that the developers will atleast develop her character at bit more.

They did say we would be seeing more of her and Papalimo's backstory in 3.0. Apparently the Shalayans will have a larger role in Heavensward. I take that to mean outside the Scions. I don't think she will betray us though. I suspect we are going to get framed for something that goes down in Ul'dah. That would explain why the Scions are fighting the Brass Blades. Teledji would see us as a threat to be removed and deflecting the blame for some upheaval onto us would allow him to play hero to Ul'dah.
In the story their seems to be something shady happening in the Crystal Braves so we may be fighting the crooked within the group. They did say we would be seeing more of her and Papalimo's backstory in 3.0.
