Recently, Yoshi P. said that whether or not the Hildibrand questline continues into 3.0 is up to the players. I am personally of the opinion that development time could better be used on things than an optional questline.

To illustrate what I mean by this, please look at the patch 2.5 trailer and information slides we saw at Fanfest in Japan. Hildibrand is continuing to be implemented all throughout 2.5, but Savage Final Coil appears to not have materialized. This means that when the choice was made, Hildibrand was placed higher on the totem than Savage Final Coil. Savage Second Coil, while not done by many players, was definitely hours upon hours of content that could be tackled (and still can be). Overall, I think this makes the game's content more rich from a purely time based perspective. I guess what I am trying to say is that I think developing something like Savage Coil adds more to the game from a content perspective than a set of optional cutscenes.
