Bots on Balmung....

Seriously, how can this possibly still be going on?? Everybody on the server knows their botting, they've been reported over and over and over. They bot in the same place 24/7 and have been there for at least 3 months, maybe more...

Would a mod, dev, (I know you guys read these posts because I was banned for 10 days), please explain to us why this is going on? There cannot be any possible excuse left for not getting rid of these guys.

And if a GM sends them a tell and they respond the investigation closes. You can't prove a client-side automation system. As long as they aren't pos-hacking and they respond to /tells there's nothing the GMs can do.

The number of people reporting someone can't be allowed to affect the judgement or that means large FCs can grief legitimate players.

I imagine after investigation #10 wherer the botter responds they will stop investigating that person, too.

2 things:

1: Not to white knight PCs that are most likely bots, but if SE talk to them and they respond they cannot prove automation is taking place. Things like pos hacking can be proven, but not automation.

2: SE's STF don't action on a case by case basis, they build up a picture of the network, following the gil/shards till they have identified *all* the players including buyers, then mass-ban them all.

If someone's moving around with an afk icon by their name I'm pretty sure they're a bot. That icon disappears when there's user input.

In that case, it might fall under #2: the STF can use that bot to track a whole RMT operation.

If you want to get these guys before they get to the farming phase, go to thm guild, from time to time I see several thm in generic gear show up and pos hack from one npc to the next to progress their quests. Worst I saw was 5 at once, teleporting all over the guild.

99% of the times when I queue for the low level roulette and I end up in copperbell mines I seem to get a tank botter. Really needs to be fixed.

To me the answer is pretty simple, combating the bots on a level that would actually make the community happy would cost too much money for them. SE does not like spending money, look at their excuses regarding lack of player housing. I don't find the bots overly intrusive to individual people myself but they can ruin a DF once in a while.

I remember getting a smn who was clearly a bot on T7 one time, it was pretty much chaos and the bot kept spitting out pre-fabbed messages in chat pretending to be a new player who didn't know the fight. At first the bot actually fooled the entire party but by the 3rd wipe it started repeating messages it had already typed into party chat and it became obvious.

That said, bots have the ability to respond to messages in a semi-coherent way which makes it very difficult to prove they are a bot without any doubt. Pretty much anything that SE does to try and combat the bots will be worked around because that's how the botters work.

I think pretty much every server have bots. In Leviathan lately it has been in Gridania, the main Aetheryte in uldhah, near the merchant at Revenant's toll and in the caves were you mine Gold in Easthern Thanalan. All Black Mages, but months ago there was some botanists as well. While i know the spam messages are just auto generated i send tells back at them telling them off, makes me feel better .....
