Sure Just make it clear in the submission that it's not for the contest and we'll set it aside for the physical copy.

Just a quick question, what gives us (whoever going to write) the right to use trademarked characters and locations of SE? Are you sure we can do this without them saying anything?

cause the last time I heard someone did a fan made FF7 remake got slapped with a lawsuit :P

There's a big difference between remaking a game and writing fiction based within an existing universe.

The biggest thing is giving credit to Square-Enix. Something along the lines of "Final Fantasy XIV and associated content are property of Square-Enix" along with the fact that it's not intended for financial gain.

SE technically has a right to slap a cease and desist on this project, but why would they want to kill the free advertising?

Sorry for the late response to this, but the answer is clear.

We're not making any profit off of this at all, so what grounds would their lawsuit stand on? If we were poised to make a profit off of the works that THEY have done or take credit for all of the Lore in FFXIV, then Yes we'd be doing something worthy of a lawsuit.

In the most base sense of it, we're just putting up a collection of Fan-Fictions for free download. If they want to sue us for that, they'd have to sue everyone who wrote a fan-fiction ever.
