    It would be cool to see this feature return!

    I was taking a nostalgic look to the old lodestone when I stumbled on this detail about FFXIV's battle mechanics:



    That sounds so cool, to see horns of monsters break and monsters getting incapacitated by dealing strikes to specific body parts through special abilities... I know it's still there in some boss fights, but I'd love to see this feature make a return on common monsters too, much like Marids or Aht Urhgan beastmen back in FFXI (You could break horns, fangs, weapons etc.)!

    It would be nice to see this come back in some way for FFXIV 2.0. Just thinking about it, it seems it would do a lot for content in general.

    - Combined things like the battle regiment and certain body parts for bosses or even sub-bosses, would make people break their rotation mold. Focus on something like the horn of a dragon or tail to disable, whether temporarily or permanently, would just be more fun to do than grind down the monster and move out of AoE's.

    - Could take in lesser used combo's and skills to help with the skill stacks and rather than boosting their damage, make them useful this way.

    - Just thinking of it, all the additional abilities that could be added to certain combinations. To make it so it's not so one-sided on jobs multiple jobs could perform the same added effect whether it's additional single target damage / aoe dmg to help those who aren't AoE masters by nature assist with trash / debuffs / drain effect on the mob or even increase DoT or gives the mob an icon to allow for higher magic dmg.

    Then again there's a ton of balancing issues. Still..that's just the ability to connect attacks and create something from it. Adding in body parts that could take away nasty abilities could help with people who don't like to just burn the monster down, could let the actual fight be more forgiving rather than one hit wonders if you take down the right part.

    All in all it seems like a wonderful idea, but you would have to do the usual balancing act. Which is hard, whether people want to admit or not.

    Sadly, this feature was deemed too difficult for modern MMO players to comprehend, and was thus removed with the transition from v1 to v2. Interesting as it was, I doubt we'll ever see it again. The same holds true with Battle Regimens, which were incredibly powerful when executed by a team with coordination.

    i dont see why the FFXIV version of skillchains/magic burst would be hard to comprehend when you have things like the binding coils, which less than 20% truly comprehend, yet have a pretty dedicated portion of content still being developed for that 20%. I doubt this would be harder to figure out then those coils so that logic kinda falls through... especially when you have heard it several times over and over that the battle systems is lack luster and needs some more OOMF! I WOULD LOVE team coordination instead of just hit 1/2/3 over and over with some GCDs thrown in here and there.

    The logic really doesn't fail. 1.0 was deemed "Confusing" and "Hard o understand" "Challenging fo new players" so along side with performance issues, 2.0 was a reboot o required skill level. Anybody who played 1.0 knows this. MNK's abilities were largely reworked. (some of their abiliies used MP . . . Fists of Earh, etc) hose types of changes.

    A big part of te problem is: If you can do it, there needs to be a benefit for doing it, or else you are just wasting resources for a cheap gimmick hat nobody will notice. So there was an NM Ram for example, in order to get his horn to drop, you had to break while fighting him. Goingback to what we were saying about it being complicated, the average player of FFXIV would never ever get a clue how to obtain those items after killing 99,999,999 goat NM's. They migh get a few luck tries where they happened to break the horn and be happy but wouldn't understand or clue in o the why.
