New player love fishing..but

I'm not a big fan of the combat, but I do enjoy fishing and got a btn up.


So I'm trying to save up for a forage set, and such..been learning the ropes on fishing. So I come to the forum for advice on such, and the info seems to be conflicting with each other.


People saying having too much gathering makes fishing harder?
People saying a sweet spot for fishing Silver Sovereigns is 350 gathering
Also heard the sweet spot for Silver Sovereigns is 310.
I have saw some saying gathering is only the check point for getting the fish.
I heard some saying perception higher makes it harder to catch fish.


All of it seems to support fishing is pretty darn random. Just new players such as myself it is very confusing when seeking help.

Some do say that too much gathering makes fishing harder, some say too much perception makes it harder, they are both wrong.

Get anywhere over the minimum gathering for Silver Sovereigns and as much perception as you can.

Gathering = the difference between hooking the fish and getting "your gathering is too low" message. More gathering may reduce "the fish gets away" messages or it may not.

Sadly, unlike Botany and Mining, we don't get to see the exact numbers. So, like most things that are random, there's a lot of superstition and misinformation as people try to look for ways to 'solve' having to deal with it.

nothing is wrong, it is RNG. Fishing is one biggest RNG you can challenge in the game

Sadly, unlike Botany and Mining, we don't get to see the exact numbers. So, like most things that are random, there's a lot of superstition and misinformation as people try to look for ways to 'solve' having to deal with it.

We do get to see exact numbers, just not in game. And those numbers are stats to catch and odds of catching what.

The number we don't get to see is evasion rate or if Gathering affects it.
