Or they could be playing on the PS3/4 and trying to chat on a controller is a huge pain in the butt.

You can use a keyboard with the playstations, and if you aren't prepared to do that you probably shouldn't even be trying to play this game. Some degree of communication is necessary and playing on a console is not a good enough justification for people being unable or unwilling to communicate with other players.
