I think FFXIV has a very good community.

just bought some metallic dyes today. I have to trade my equipment and pay the gil for him before he dye it for me, I will never do that in other MMOs because they'll just take my stuffs and run away. in FFXIV I can trust almost everybody in the endgame community.

Rude players are rare at least on Shiva/Chaos datacentre. Ones not skilled/attentive enough to complete the content? Sure, happens (Titan EX is like that, hell, Titan EX can be like that even with 8 people who know the fight but haven't played together before ...).

I keep hearing about some sort of dislike for Lalafellin but I've never actually seen it in game; same for the BLM discrimination I'm starting to hear about (though this is largely limited at the moment to Final Coil, which I'm nowhere near ready for yet ... and my experience with BLM on Titan EX gives me an unfortunate feeling that it might be justified endgame ... *sigh*).

Not surprised some people don't chat; besides PS3/PS4 folks there's the fact that if you're not in an FC or LS yet, since there's no "free form zone chat" the way there is in most other MMOs, you probably haven't really had a general type chat that's not in party (where things are often too fast paced to talk) ...

The community, such as it is, is fantastic.

Don't go by these forums. Forums are weird.

FFXIV is a game where I can reasonably expect to actually find friendly people in random groups. That ALONE is one of the strongest points in it's favor. It's not limited to the DF. People are generally cool when doing open-world stuff like Hunts, too, and I've found myself in an FC and linkshells with very pleasant socializing constantly happening.

This does not happen in WoW, which I'd played in November in December after they released a new expansion. Random groups are often outright hostile to one another and the game uses an outdated mob-tagging system that means the presence of players in an open world are a nuisance, and don't even get me started on the faction divide.

This is an MMO. I should want to see other people and feel as if I'm sharing an experience with them rather than perpetually competing.

In FFXIV, that's precisely how I feel, and I love this game for it.

I love the people on my server. It's very rare that I find an unfriendly group in PF. I always seem to find a fun party even on FATE grinds. Admittedly sometimes DF can be quiet but that's the nature of the beast as people have to spam for grinds but I always try and start a bit of a chat - goes a long way.

I started playing the game as a big final fantasy fan, I stay because of the community.

Yes, as a former WoW player, the modern mob tagging system is welcome indeed. Of other MMOs I've played, LOTRO also has shared tagging, but SW:TOR does not - interesting, as it seems to suggest a relationship between two-faction system and exclusive tagging (both or neither, basically).

I had wanted to play FFXIV for quite some time, I was only somewhat late in joining because I had been occupied with other games - and as I already owned the TOR expansion, most of the LOTRO expansions, and an up to date WoW, while I still had yet to make the initial outlay for FFXIV, I tended to gravitate there for budgetary reasons (which were also a main reason I wasn't playing MMOs at all for a lot of later 2014). It's nice here.

Could be player region colours people's opinions? This is also the first time I've played an MMO on a European server and I've noticed the EU community is very laid back, while most of the "MMO horror stories" tend to be associated with NA server communities ...

There's also something unique in the way that this game has fostered community relations between the players and dev team. There's a rapport that could almost be described as "intimate", with the developers constantly coming out to communities in every region to relate things, discuss plans, and generally act like participants rather than supervisors. It says something that, at the Tokyo fanfest, Yoshi-P mentioned how good it is to just talk about the game with players who know it and speak the language of it rather than constantly feel obligated to "sell" them on it.

It isn't trying to be the greatest MMO ever made. It's not a game that plays the playerbase against itself through a faction system (WoW), it's not a game that's trying too hard to cater to "hardcore" players, feeling as if envy ought to be incentive to progress (Wildstar). It doesn't have an established setting (Warcraft, Star Wars, Elder Scrolls) and so can develop the game world in a way that makes it a believable place where an MMO happens. It's trying to be good and fun, and this is just about it. They talk openly about the emotional experience and satisfaction of creating the game, the art, the music. There is so much heart in it.

I think this is one of the reasons why the community tends to feel a lot more agreeable than many other games. Not the only reason, but much can be said for the effort being made to create a culture of friendship.

I am not a hardcore MMO player anymore. I swore I was done with them after ten years of Eve Online. The only reason I'm playing this game is because I find the community to be so pleasant.

It's kind of a mixed bag. For every party you get that has the most amazing and helpful people, there's always gonna be that party with that guy in it. You know the guy. Probably best not to take it personally and just don't give them the attention they're seeking.

Couldn't agree more. FFXIV has more elitists than all the MMORPGs I've played (Vanilla WoW, Aion, Tera).

A lot of MMO idiots still think WoW is the only MMORPG to play and I think because FFXIV is Japanese, therefore in their minds, "inferior" to western MMO we are saved from the masses of idiocy .

It is a good community but like everything there will be people who you will not get along with.
