The only game I've played with a nicer server-side community (granted I'm on a JP server) than this one was LoTRO's. Overall ARR seems to have a fairly considerate and understanding player base, regardless of the shitstorms we see here on the forums at times.

I have played other MMORPGs over the past 10+ years (Maple Story for 3 and World of Warcraft for about 5, and others as well), and... I did come across this, but not to this extent. I even went back to WoW for about 3 months, and still nothing to the extent of this game.

Don't get me wrong, this game is great and far better then a majority of MMOs out there, but is it just me, or is this game community just down right awful?

lolwat? i played WoW for 4 years, the forum is full of trolls and toxic players, and its like a 50/50 chance to get a toxic group in the finder tool...

I'm the complete opposite. The FFXIV community, at least in my experience so far, has been the most enjoyable.

The problem is how you're defining these terms.

Are they calling you "useless", "slow" and insulting you or are they just more focused on completing the dungeons as quickly as possible? Are you wanting to have friendly banter with every party you get and the rest of the party don't? Are people getting upset because the party has wiped 3 times in a row?

It could be what you consider a "poor community" is just people who don't want to play the same way you do.

Unfortunately, the very design of the game can be attributed to a degree the nature of the player base. Square built a game focused on mindless, zero thought, repetitive grind fests that would test the patience of the Pope let a lone the general populace. As several have mentioned, while I am not excusing outright rude behavior, having to do the same instances thousands of times over and over and over for tomes, for maps, for alexandrite, for light, for etc. etc. etc.... people at times just get frustrated and impatient. My best suggestion is just to join a FC and group with them 90% of the time. That is what our FC does and we rarely even interact with trolls or the general dinks of the world.

I find this to be the case for almost every MMORPG, really.

It's not even that there aren't good players out there; in fact they typically completely outnumber the rude ones. But rude ones will far out-volume (for lack of a better word) any good ones until you've found yourself a free company (or other guild-equivalent) to hang out with.

My server is awesome, Never really have any issues. I assume you're on a North American server? I use to be on Exodus and and found it similar to what you're saying.

    Welcome to North America.

I've met a lot of people who are nice on here, especially through duty finder. I mean of course you get someone/a group that just doesn't work well, but it's few and far between really. In fact most of my DF runs are pretty quiet, with just the standard hellos and thank you/goodbyes.

What are you more likely to remember, a standard run where no one says anything to each other (but gets everything done), or the time where everyone did everything wrong and you all fought for an hour and a half?

Fixed it for you...and I'm kidding by the way.

The dregs of the community will always overshadow the the good of the community because that's all anyone really remembers.

It's a pretty average high pop MMO really. There are bad groups, good groups, meh groups, all sorts.
I haven't had many problems, but i've seen it.
The way I've determined it, jerkass behavior is actually a ratio: the more players there are, the more jerks their are.
