So, I'm guilty of skipping much of the cutscenes. Where can I read about Omega? Somethign about under Carteneu plains?

Omega Weapon is under Cartenau Plains, near where Dalamud fell, Teledji Adelji, a memeber of Ul'dah's syndicate has put something forward called the "Cartenau Reclaimation Bill", the bill has been put forward under the guise of providing new housing for Ala Mhigan refugees, who swamp Ul'dah's gates. What he really wants to pass the bill for is so he can dig Omega up and take it for himself. You can rewatch missed cutscenes in your inn room at "The Unending Journey" book.
Specifically, Raubahn and Nanamo talked about Omega in:
The Unending Journey > Main Scenario Quests > Seventh Astral Era > Revolution > Cutscene #3
For the record, they just called it "Omega", and not "Omega Weapon".
While related (and given FF-lore), they're different contraptions.
We don't know that yet. The Weapons were Allagan devices built to fight primals and we've been told that Omega was actually built to fight Bahamut. It's presumably how they trapped him within Dalamud in the first place. Given that both were built to fight primals, Omega may indeed be a Weapon...
I think you're reading too much into slight translation variations. Omega or Omega Weapon, it's all the same recurring reference, a super powerful (generally optional) mechanical boss. In some games there's a direct reference to a related Ultima Weapon (FF8), in some games it stands alone (FF5). Either way, it's the same recurring reference. There's nothing to suggest there's a distinction between an Omega and an Omega Weapon.

If they say in game simply "Omega" then they are referencing the Robotic Omega. Omega is more Iconic in the series than Omega Weapon.
If they say "Omega Weapon" then they mean the alternate more powerful version of Ultima Weapon. Omega Weapon is more of a beast rather than a robot (although it can sometimes have some robotic parts)

Except for the fact that Omega Weapon has always been similar to Ultima Weapon, while Omega has always looked like some form of quadrupedal, mechanical spider.

And consider in Final Fantasy Theatrhythm, a game where pretty much every single reoccurring and popular enemy receives a "Card", that there is an "Omega" Card, and no "Omega Weapon" card, while simultaneously having an "Ultima Weapon" card... it would not be difficult to assume they are the same entity despite appearance differencesActually Omega and Omega Weapon are two different things.

If we're using FF lore, it should also be noted both Omega and Ultima were added into FFXI at the same time, as bosses, Omega possessing the "Spider mech" look, and Ultima not having "Weapon" in the name, but both being the known mechanic menaces. It should also be noted that Omega weapon only appears in (Main series)games Ultima weapon exists in, but not all of them... "Omega" appearing in the others, but not all of them.
But I believe Omega Weapon is actually just introduced as a +1 to Ultima weapon in games it appears... where as "Omega" is more an interdimensional beast/traveler like Gilgamesh and other reaccuring bosses that the game alludes are actually all the same boss just traveling dimensions.
Also lastly, for lore...
According to the Urutan-Yensa bestiary entry in Final Fantasy XII, Omega Mark XII was created by an inventor for the request of an unknown patron to defeat a monstrous wyrm. This makes me feel that we'll likely be getting "Omega Weapon", the +1 Ultima weapon... not "Omega", its likely if they stick to FF lore, "Omega" will be introduced near or alongside Shinryu.A dragon which flits through dimensions in pursuit of Omega. Enemies drown in the face of its strength. It guards a legendary sword, but neither its treasure nor power offer any clue why it might lurk in a box...
