    Question about NPC purchased gear

I've been looking around at guides and such and was wondering if I would be gimping myself too hard if I were to just barely meet the requirements to start farming the items to purchase the new gatherer gear? Like what sort of success % would I see for umbral rocks if I just had the minimum requirements of 353 gathering and 332 Perception?

I'm trying not to have to meld the old gear too much until I have enough sealants to upgrade. I was planning on getting those requirements so I could at least guarantee 3 HQ rocks per attempt. (Toil + Field mastery 3 + Brunt Force). Is this a good strategy?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but your success will be 0%. Unless you reach a certain gathering and perception you are not even given the chance to gather certain items in certain nodes. If I remember well umbral rocks require a minimum or 370 gathering?

SE said they'll add more gathering gear with patch 2.5, so I'd wait for that to arrive before making any decisions what to get.

"The patch will also feature the adventures of Hildibrand─agent of enquiry, inspector extraordinaire─on his latest (and perhaps final?) investigation, a new battle against Odin, the Dark Divinity of legend, in Urth’s Fount, new gear for gatherers and crafters, numerous new recipes, and more."

Ummm... How many GPs is that?

    It was reduced.

You need at least 800 GP to guarantee three HQ:

Botanist: Blessed Harvest (500 GP) to bring yield from 1 to 3 items. Ageless Words (300 GP) or Toil of the Pioneer (300 GP) to make sure you have six swings. Brunt Force (0 GP) to bring gather and HQ rate to 100% for the final swing.
Miner: King's Yield (500 GP) to bring Yield from 1 to 3 items. Solid Reason (300 GP) or Toil of the Mountaineer (300 GP) to make sure you have six swings. Deep Vigor (0 GP) to bring gather and HQ rate to 100% for the final swing.

800 GP is impossible to attain, currently. Even 700, I think, is still well out of reach. Even if you could reach these numbers, though, it's impossible to have a 100% success rate on gathering, without using at least one Field Mastery (Botanist) or Sharp Vision (Miner), and the cheapest of those is another 50 GP on top. So you actually need 850 GP to guarantee three HQs, even more unattainable.

You can't guarantee 3. But you do have options. I'll quote the 2 rotations I presented in another thread.

My husband and I took 2 separate approaches to this.

He did Unearth II->Sharp Vision III on Node 7

While I did Toil->Unearth->Sharp Vision II, then Deep Vigor when it proc'd for a guaranteed HQ.

The difference being that his rotation gives a higher HQ %, but we all know that RNG is still just RNG so it's not a guarantee.
My rotation gave me a lower HQ %, but because Deep Vigor guarantees 1, even if RNG hated me, I still had one! (Often I still ended up with 2-3 HQ Umbrals).

I think Squintina's shown both methods (the first requires 550 GP and the second requires 600) that I've seen practiced. Personally I used the the 550 GP method and sometimes you end up with no HQ, while once (literally just once) I ended up with 5 HQ from a single attempt. Usually I walked away with 2-3.

If you have sufficient gathering/ perception/ GP to do either method (ie. can gather, HQ% >0, have 550+ GP) then you're ready to get started. Not much sense in holding off really. Even with the best gear you're not going to be able to gather the materials that much faster.

Actually the second one can be done with less than 600 since you get 5 back for each attempt.
    Toil (300) + Unearth (100) + Sharp Vision II (100) = 500 - 25 (5 attemps x 5 back) = 475 GP to start with

I don't know if the second one works well with someone exactly at 353 gathering though.I believe I was a little higher (maybe 360), so if Sharp Vision II isn't enough to get to 95%-100%, the first rotation would probably be best.

What I do, but I am at 95% on that node:
Toil (300) > sharp vision I (50) > gather the soil (recover 5 GP) > Unearth II (300) > swing till deep vigor lights up.

This requires 345 GPs but there is food.
All these numbers are maximums based on %s.
Mutton Stew, +19 GPs +2 gathering - cheap from vendors in every market area.
    Beef Stew, NQ +24 GPs + 6 gathering (HQ 30 & 7)
Dzemael gratin HQ, +31 GPs +8 perception.
