    Waste of dps?

So I was tanking snowcloak and we get to the first boss, so normal stuff happens till the adds. This group was 2 brd pld whm, one brd would not kill adds cuz it was a waste of dps. Is that a prudent desicion to make in that instance or is it better to kill adds especially when the healer can't keep up with the AoE and it wipes the group

That's someone who thinks they can out dps the mechanics and progress. Mechanics>>>raw dps in most if not all cases. Tell that person to get off their high horse

I think you answered your own question. It should be fine if you can heal through it, though I've never attempted this before and it doesn't seem advisable since the adds have such low health anyway. If you can't heal through the easily avoidable damage then you need to follow the mechanics.

I've been the healer in groups that ignore them. It's fine to do as I can keep the group up but I personally don't think killing them significantly slows down the kill. They die so fast. Probably more of a total dps loss having me switch out of cleric to heal the group up after the bombs explode.

If the group can't heal through skipping the mechanics... Obviously it isn't going to work.

Last time I checked the bombs also gave freezing stacks aside from (possibly negligible?) damage. I'm quite sure that being frozen lowers damage output.

If you dodge all the snow drifts, AOE, etc it's a good idea. If you can't do that just kill the adds.

If your group has the dps for it, then by all means skip those bombs if it helps speed things up a little.

when the bombs explode, they do a room wide AoE that adds freezing stacks. At 4 stacks, you are frozen solid for 10 seconds. A minimum of 4 bombs will spawn during the fight so if you ignore adds completely you will get frozen at least once. 10 seconds of no DPS is worse than the small amount of time that it takes to just kill the adds. If you really wanted to min/max, then you could just kill the first bomb and ignore the others. That would work fine.

Some adds in this game can be successfully ignored, like the second boss in Temple of Qarn HM (except the guardian of course, gotta kill him) but i would not consider the first snowcloak boss one of these instances

With enough DPS you can kill the boss before getting 4 explosions. My ninja friend and I do this every time we run Snowcloak. Granted you need pretty high DPS in the first place. We both pull near or over 500 DPS on that fight.

Edit - I should mention that in a random group I'll kill the singles, and then when the two spawn at the end it's more of a judgement call on where you stand at that point if DPS is fast enough or not.

500 dps is a number that is achieved by only a small fraction of the playerbase. For the large majority of PUG groups, it is much smarter to just kill the adds. If you are good enough to pull 500+dps, then there is very little outside of FCoB that should challenge you.
