Is the addition of new classes still planned?

So, awhile back, it was mentioned that the changes to the armory system included the addition of "traditional Final Fantasy" classes, which I assume would be Black Mage, White Mage, Paladin, etc. The existing class would be regulated for soloing while the traditional classes would be for doing everything else.

I haven't seen this mentioned in some time. One of the aspects of the game that has me uninterested is the current classes. I find them to be quite boring. Even their names are boring (why is there even a Gladiator? Gladiators are single combat warriors that fight in arenas.).

When I heard this mentioned a few months back, I got excited because I think one big mistake the original developers made was that they tried to make the game as un-Final Fantasy as possible while still being a Final Fantasy. I feel the current classes are a leftover of that.

I'm looking forward to traditional classes with traditional abilities and armor. I want a Paladin that cures and wears white plate armor and has a cape. I want a Black Mage with a hood and hat. I want a Red Mage. I want a White Mage. I want a Blue Mage. I want a Samurai. I want a Dragoon or keep it named Lancer, just give us jump! I want a Beastmaster. I want a Summoner. I want a Monk. I want a Thief. Come on and make it Final Fantasy!

As a point on semantics and I myself might stand corrected shortly. The current roles in the game are classified as 'classes' while the "traditional Final Fantasy classes" you reference will be labelled 'jobs' which enhance and refine the generalist solo oriented 'classes' and transform your character into a party play oriented specialist on your 'job'.

For example you would change from a Conjurer (class) into a White Mage (job) and then you'd probably be useless alone but expertly able to fill the role of healer in a party setting with enhanced healing magic (bald assertion but it's a fair guess I think).

That's all. Otherwise I agree completely with you. I eagerly await the jobs.

tl;dr: see the post above mine.

If it was a bold assertion it might've raised some hairs. Luckily it was indeed a bald assertion. And as much as I'm not a fan of the armoury system, the class and job system makes a lot of sense. I would MUCH rather have had firm job roles built into each class but as you've pointed out, it would severely hamper solo/casual play.

If you don't think new summoner is better, you're playing the wrong game.

Don't forget Classes are still intended to be used for small groups! A Paladin and White mage team will probably not get anywhere in a fight but they sure won't die =P

I agree completely in regards to the firm job roles. It would have been preferable, in my opinion, to have had the roles clearly defined from the start. But alas we find ourselves with this system going forward. I think it's akin to covering former garbage dump mountains in grass and using them for those little ski hills in the winter? lol.
