If one of the DPS can kill the adds in time on their own, then there's no reason for both DPS to switch to the adds. I usually ignore the first add on that boss and see how that goes (it'd be extremely rare for the first one to wipe the party) and if necessary I'll help with adds after, but usually the other DPS has no trouble dealing with the adds alone.

Edit - I should mention that in a random group I'll kill the singles, and then when the two spawn at the end it's more of a judgement on where you stand that point if DPS is fast enough or not.
500 dps is a number that is achieved by only a small fraction of the playerbase. For the large majority of PUG groups, it is much smarter to just kill the adds. If you are good enough to pull 500+dps, then there is very little outside of FCoB that should challenge you.

What is funny is, sometimes I do this.. and if the other dps is ranged then I kinda assume they will take care of the bombs if I'm the melee for the party.
