    Actions Taken Against In-Game RMT & Other Illicit Activities (Jan. 8)

    ... and moments after I logged in today I was bombarded with RMT tells, usually the same message from groups of 3 different RMT tell bots. I was getting tells faster than I could blacklist. Overall, about a dozen in the span of an hour, and the same advertisement I've been getting for months.

    Come on, SE. Get it together.

    I'm actually more surprised when I saw this;

    - Accounts receiving disciplinary action for participation in RMT/illegal activity: 1
    - Action Details: Temporary ban from FINAL FANTASY XIV
    The RMT are probably getting desperate. Maybe. I still don't get the point of this line of text since it was never mentioned in previous notices. It's gotten me kinda curious now. I wonder what's this for?

    It occurs cause when the ban hammer comes down the RMT worry that they will lose the gil they have stocked up, so they are desperate to sell before they get banned and lose all that gil they gained.

    They don't lose any gil, they have separate accounts, One that has all the Gil and the other account that spam tells / friend requests / shouts .

    The only thing getting banned is the Spam account. The account with all the Gil isn't tied to the other account. So they just make a new account to spam with.

    Actually it works the other way around. SE rarely ban the spam accounts and instead let them and the bots linger so they can trace the gil they acquire to the bank characters. The entire reason SE bans in waves like this is so that they can trace the gil and ban the accounts that actually store it. They've explained this before and it's exactly the same way they operated in FFXI.

    Sudden spam surges after a ban wave is unsurprising given that it means there will be a while before another ban and the gil sellers probably just lost a couple of their 'bank' characters and a fair bit of money with them.

    My solution for these gilsellers is a macro

    /reply Thank you for dialing this extension. Unfortunately the party you are trying to reach is no longer in service. Please try back again when hell freezes over.
    /wait 2
    /reply Again, the party you are trying to reach is UNAVAILABLE for your gil selling services.

    The /tell we get on Leviathan is probably an average of 1 instance every 6 min. However, that instance could involve being spammed by 3 different bots simultaneously lol... which is pretty common. I'm seeing sooooo many BLM bots though these days. 4-12 of them near the Ifrit quest NPC (in the Gold Ore node area), 4-12 at the Ul'dah Aetheryte, and 4-12 of them near the Soldiery/Poetics gear NPC.
