    Help With Loot Etiquette...

Hello! So far, this community has been very helpful with my extremely noobish questions and I have another - what is the community standard/etiquette with regard to loot drops? I ran Sastasha for the first time the other night and was mostly concerned with finishing it above all else (and I had a great group who sort of just plowed through everything), but I did find a couple of loot chests and wasn't sure how to proceed. Do people roll on all gear? Is 'need' reserved for active roles? My only other real MMO experience was DCUO and the general rule of thumb was 'need' on role specific gear only, 'greed' on everything else. But, this game is a bit different since everyone could potentially play any role, so I wasn't sure what to do (I 'greeded' stuff that wasn't for magic users).

In regular dungeons if you are able to Need it, do it, because 9/10 times the other pt members will Need if available to them. If you can greed it greed it, again because the others will probably do the same. The only exception is Coil, which probably has some understanding within the pt of which equip can be looted on and who can roll on it.

Of course BCoB (and maybe T6-8) could fall in the free for all rolling.

Roll on everything for sure. You might not need it now, but you might later if you ever do another class. If someone says that they are doing this just for a certain piece of armor that comes from a certain chest, i usually pass if that item shows up. Other than that i roll on everything.

The game itself mandates some of that. It won't allow you to roll Need if it's not an item intended for your current class, but you can roll Greed on anything you want (unless it's a "Unique" item that you already have). In random groups put together through Duty Finder, the normal etiquette is usually to accept the game's standard, rolling "Need" on anything it allows you to and "Greed" on everything else.

Or some people only do that when it's level-appropriate and if they're over-leveled enough (in all classes the item's suited to) that it would only be useful to trade in for some Seals, then they might downgrade their roll, either Passing entirely or choosing "Greed" when they could have chosen "Need". (There's actually a fourth option, of simply not choosing anything and letting the timer run out. This acts kind of like an extra level in between Greed and Pass. If nobody Needs or Greeds on the item, then it will randomly be given to somebody, and anyone who didn't explicitly choose "Pass" might get it. Some players also choose this fourth option if they don't have a direct use for the item but don't want it just dropping unclaimed by anybody, as just getting a few GC Seals is better than nothing.)

In pre-formed parties, players may choose to adopt other standards regarding who will roll on what. If you've already got your current class pretty well equipped but would like an upgrade for one of your other classes, you might ask your teammates if they'd be willing to Pass on some particular item you're hoping to get, or perhaps just to Greed on it rather than Need if it's something the game won't allow you to roll Need on, as that way you'd both get a chance to roll for it rather than it automatically going to the person currently playing that class. Of course, if you're asking them for such special consideration, you'd be expected to show the same sort of consideration to them when it comes to the items they want. Sometimes this comes down to choosing one item that they'd defer to you on and another that you'd defer to them on, depending on which one drops. Or in static groups that play together repeatedly, it might be that you let them get the good loot from this run and they let you get the good loot on the next run. Whatever you all agree to is fine, so long as you all agree to it in advance and follow through on your agreements.

The only thing that's really frowned on (apart from breaking your word after special agreements have been made), is to bully other players into accepting your special rules. If three people get together and decide player A should get item X if it drops, and those three players pick up a fourth from Duty Finder and tell that fourth person (who hadn't agreed to any such rule when they joined) that they also have to pass on item X because the other three agreed on that, that would be bullying and harassment.

I actually had a similar question, which has been somewhat answered in this thread, but I'd like to ask anyways. What exactly IS the difference between "Need" and "Greed".

I've done just a few dungeon runs, and I've gotten items by chance, but I've mostly been passing, partially because I haven't been interested in anything, and partially because I'm not sure on what the difference between the other two options actually is.

"Need" is always prioritized first before "Greed". Here's a situation, you are a gladiator and a sword loot drops for the party, you rolled a Need and everyone else rolled Greed. You will always get the sword regardless of whether or not the others Greeded with a higher score than your Need. Other situation includes if nobody rolled a Need at all, then the loot will go to whoever Greeded with the highest score. If everyone Passed the loot, it will be lost. If everyone but one player left the dungeon while a loot is not rolled by anyone, it will automatically goes to the last person to leave regardless whether or not they rolled. If two or more people rolled Need together, then whoever rolled Need with highest score gets the loot and as usual, those Greeded will not be considered.

If this is the answer you are looking for, hope it helps. :3

Basically, only those selecting the highest tier get to roll for the item.
    • If anyone selects Need, then Greed is ignored completely and it's down to just a roll between those who selected Need. (So, for instance, if it's a piece of tank gear that drops in a four-man dungeon with only one tank, that tank is guaranteed to get the item if he wants it, because nobody else can select Need on tank items.)
    • It's only when nobody selects Need that those who selected Greed get to roll for the item. Then it's a random dice roll between everyone who selected Greed.
    • If nobody selected either Need or Greed but some players didn't select anything, then it's a roll between those players who didn't make a selection but are still in the dungeon when the loot timer runs out.
    • If everybody chooses Pass (or leaves before the timer runs out), then the item drops on the floor and nobody gets it.

Thank you both! This info is actually really helpful, just did a few dungeon runs and was actually able to get some stuff I wanted now that I know how all this works!

Basically I need it if its my job's loot, if its not I only greed it if I could use it or if there is no one that can equip it.
