    Crafting Airships

So I got to thinking about crafting airships, from the Cid perspective, from that corporate and main storyline perspective, and the Beast Tribe perspective. There has been speculation about Free Companies having the "slot" at their houses to dock an Airship, and discussion about whether crafters will be able to build airships.

I think completing the Ehcatl Quest should be the general "requirement" for crafting airships, since it provides us with recipes, although I don't think after we complete the quest, we should be stuck with the quest restrictions on cross class abilities, CP sync down or special forges, and we would have to supply our own materials.

Additionally, we might have specialized options for Airship parts from each class, so each company's airship might have some custom features, similar to houses.

I'm sure there's more input on this than I'm aware and would love to hear feedback!

I'd imagine that each crafting discipline is responsible for making different parts of the airship. With the Ixali quests, all classes were allowed to make the same recipes, but that was more for convenience' sake. The way I picture it:

    Armorer: Exterior Hull
    Carpenter: Interior Hull, Masts
    Blacksmith: Weapons
    Goldsmith: Ship's Instruments
    Alchemist: Fuel, Black Powder
    Leatherworker: Sails and Rigging
    Weaver: Team Jackets
    Culinarian: Dat Grog

And I foresee that there will be a huge collective grind to make your airship not only crafting-wise but gathering as well. You might need 10,000 Spruce Lumber just to build your hull! Miners could collect materials for fuel and maybe Fish could get involved somehow.

They will likely add another door in our FC house basements that leads to our workshop along with a crystal that takes us directly to the airship dock in Heavensward's new Sky areas; that means no airships floating around in the Mist!

I'm personally scrambling to get all classes to 4-Star before 2.5 just in case there's some kind of requirement, but a cool feature like this will involve as many people as possible, the bulk of the work likely achievable by people who don't consider themselves crafters in the first place. An example, Tom Crafter can make as many Hull Components as he wants, but you'll need Lord Crafter and his 4-Star skills to make a Cannon or a Ship's Wheel.

The Ehcatl questline I could see as a prerequisite to allow a player to participate in its construction for their fc, assuming the fc reaches the proper rank (likely rank 9+)

The problem with this is that unless they update the ixali questline, players will need to do level 50 content (for a while no less) for heavensward content (airships).

Its a fc rank, not an individual's.

Hell, you need 2nd lieutenant to buy the house anyways, lol. Airship doesnt have to be explicitly heavensward content...but we will see.

while i wouldnt say thousands of spruce would be needed (maybe hundreds of logs though), the mats could get extensive by doing the Armorer Helmet thing. for those who remember the Helmet and heavy steel gauntlet recipes, where you have multiple plates, and each plate is multiple ingots, and each ingot is multiple ore. If we broke up the ship into a dozen parts, and each part required x2-x20 of something else (like crafting a Garden pond) then the equivalent of several garden ponds or forges in materials would be one airship.

its suppose to be content for the whole fc.

having crazy entry conditions does not fit the bill.

there maybe some advanced decorative features for the more skilled crafters gatherers to help on but the bulk of the ship should be pretty straight forward, although im sure a grind to achieve.
