It's odd that it's only FF14 1.x and 2.x since they are different code bases. The game was re-wrote.

You wont get the kind of response because the game as you probably know is Japanese and all the dev work is down there. Only NA employees frequent these sites.

Do you use a PC or console?

If a PC what controller do you use, do you use third party software?

Have you checked the controller config in game and see if any options are enabled or need disabling.

Hm... Could you be accidentally triggering auto-run? That will cause your character to run off on it's own. (I don't remember how to turn auto run on and off, myself. If anyone else can supply that piece of info, I'd appreciate it.)

I had a lot of problems with the original FFXIV controller you could get back when 1.0 was in its prime(if you can call it that). And in this game 2.0 there was something weird going on with the dead zones of the movement. If I let up pressure going forward it almost always continued to move forward, usually walking. But if i pressed the stick back and released sometimes it would stop. I ended up giving up and buying a xbox360 controller. That resolved my problems. I think FFXIV is very picky about the dead zones on the control sticks. I heard of one guy on here around beta where his did the same thing but with his camera stick. So the camera was always look up his butt and he kept having to fight the camera. SE might be able to introduce some better dead zone options, if the demand is there. Otherwise you're looking at getting a new controller. OF course you wanna make sure you tried recalibrating it(if your playing on windows) under control panel, before buying a diff one. In there when your calibrating you can see if there is some odd stuff going on with the sticks. Sometimes windows can help creating a better dead zone unless its really bad.

    Hi Rizon,

I am Mishini / Misenklauph from the Ultros Server. Like many people already viewing this thread, I pride myself in excellent technical skills, and work within the Information-Technology industry. There is a certain degree to which I can appreciate your point. SE's software / make them come up with the solution. I mean, you're wrong, but I get where you are coming from. it works everywhere else, so obviously it's SE's fault.

Well - not really. FFXIV: ARR plays on PS3, PS4, low-end PC's, and high-end PC's, without necessarily having this issue. This means the issue is not with the game client.

I feel like this is the wrong approach though, Ultimately, that is the WHY you need to work to get this resolved. Let's try and fix this problem.

    1) What Platform are YOU playing on?
    PS3
    PS4
    Windows XP, 32-bit or 64-bit?
    Windows Vista, 32-bit or 64-bit?
    Windows 7, 32-bit or 64-bit?
    Windows 8, 32-bit or 64-bit?
    Windows 10 Beta, 32-bit or 64-bit?
    Mac OS?

    2) What Make of Controller are you using? (Let's answer this, for right now, not what you have used. Lets get this working with your current setup if we can)
    Sony* PS3 Controller
    Sony* PS4 Controller
    Microsoft Wired gamepad
    Microsoft Wireless Gamepad
    Other brand PS3
    Other brand PS4
    Other Brand XBOX.

    ******************
I'm separating this, because depending on how you answer, these may no longer be relevant. I am howeer under the impression you are playing with a PC. Let's just take a stab in the dark and say you're playing on Windows 7 64-bit.

What are you using for drivers for the controller? I used Motion Joy DS3 to load drivers to make my PS3 Controllers work, as long as I maintain a wired connection. The controllers don't seem to want to pair with my PC's over Bluetooth, but I'm OK with that. Again, I'm stating that this enables my gamepad to work, and it works with FFXIV. Perhaps if you are not using it, you could try, and see if it resolves your issue. Shouldn't necessarily be your first step.
    ******************
Another big question was already asked. Did you run the Calibration from within FFXIV?
I'm pretty sure the opening screen has a settings option where you can enter in the system settings, you can go to Gamepad, Calibrate, and calibrate the gamepad. When you are completely logged in, it's under either Character configuration, or system configuration, game pad, calibration. Do it. Every once in a while my controller gets buggy and I have to redo it. I'm pretty sure it's because of those DS3 drivers I mentioned I am using. This is not an SE/FFXIV problem.
    ******************
The original description of the issue, sounds like you hit autorun, and couldn't turn it off. By Default, L1 or Left-Bumper is set to toggle Autorun. Try turning this off completely. again, either system/character config, gamepad, right above the calibration I think it's called "buttons" but when you click on it you can assign actions to the different buttons on the gamepad. You should be able to select your L1 action, and set it to "Do Nothing" Try that and see if it fixes your issue.

if it does, it means one of two things. Either 1) Your gamepad is malfunctioning (key stuck down perhaps?) or 2) You are accidentally hitting the button unknowingly, locking you into autorun. Since you aren't expecting it you have a hard time breaking it. (running backwards, should break it, actually, but moving the joystick left/right willr esult n turning, not breaking the autorun)

I think that's enough for now. Hopefully I've helped.

    To Mishini

    to answer your questions

    1. I am on a PC running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. I am using a Logitech F710 Wireless controller that is less then a month old. Previously is was an XBOX 360 controller. I am using a Driver provided by Microsoft ver. 6.1.7601.18199. As I prefer the XBox set up I am unfamiliar with Motion Joy. Do not know if it would help here.

    2. Autorun is turned off. Has been for ages. I have preformed the calibration (from within game) on numerous occasions. I performed it when I installed my current controller. To the best of my knowledge hitting autorun should not cause my camera to independently move to a completely overhead view on its own. (Could be wrong there)

I also use controller; I used to have a similar issue with my 360 controller when it was pretty old- I would just carry on running even though I was no longer pressing the thumbsticks. When I got a new controller the problem solved- the fact that you are still having that issue with a new controller is odd.
I have had "creeping" before with the camera angle where the sensitivity is set slightly too high and the camera angle will creep upwards on its own without touching anything. I know you say that you have calibrated it within the game, but have you tried turning down sensitivity to see if there is a difference?

This may be a stupid question but are you sure you're not hitting your autorun button by mistake? What you described happening to you is exactly what happens when you press L1 while running with a controller. Also, are you sure that your keyboard/controller keys aren't getting stuck at all?

If not then I would really only recommend a new controller because there isn't going to be much that SE can do for you in this case. They provide software support for their game, not hardware support for your computer.

That said, I've used controller since launch on PC (both W7 and W8.1) and have never had a problem. I've used both a wireless Logitech controller and am currently using a PS4 controller. The only issue I've had is that if my battery dies while in game I'm forced to Calibrate the controller when I plug it in if I don't log out first, takes about 20 seconds to do and not really a big deal. For my PS4 controller I'm using xbox 360 drivers with DS4 software and can use it both plugged in or w/ bluetooth.
