Suggestion on how to stop Gil Spamming.

Many features, including mounts and minions, are only available once you complete a certain part of the story quest. My suggestion is open up the ability to send tells once you've joined a Grand Company, just like Mounts.

Now, I know that this will affect regular players as well, but let's be honest, veteran players on new accounts would already have access to the resources they need. Linkshells, Free Companies, and so on, so communication would not be an issue there. As for new players, there's honestly no reason for a new player to send a tell before level 20. The only reason I can think of sending a tell would be to ask for a FATE grinding group near Aleport, and that only happens when leveling alternate classes. Even then, they still have access to the party finder. If the person is a new player that is playing with friends, then they will likely have a way to communicate with those friends other than just through tells.

Also, I had to cut that short due to character restrictions. So let me finish it up here.

Now just like any prevention method, there will be some inconveniences, but I feel that the goods far outweigh the bads on this. But I feel that this suggestion would show a vast improvement. New players will still have access to /say, /yell, and shout as well if they need assistance.

i personally think the investigators should be localised. to me it seems they are not familiar enough with the game and how to spot them, so they should also be looking in areas that multiple players across multiple servers have reported. for example outside the ixal camp in fallgourd.

The bots could still use the shout chat, as well as using a program to just level them up quickly through fates in parties/ect

And what about the bots that unlock a gathering class the moment they can change jobs and get that to 20 much faster than a normal class?

If you read the first part, I said "My suggestion is open up the ability to send tells once you've joined a Grand Company, just like Mounts". You cannot complete the main story through a gathering class, regardless of your level. It's around level 20 or so when you join a Grand Company, that's why I used that as an example.

Yes, bots can still use shout, but it prevents them from engaging in shouting in high level combat areas, like they do when they sit inside Ul'dah and spam people in /tell. Their tells are now their primary form of marketing. I haven't seen a bot shouting in a city in a long time.

No thanks. If any new player have to lvl that high and do those story quest just to send tells, I know i would quit. What if the player is lost or just new and comes to play with friends?

I love the official forums, they tell you to use the search for thread about what you wanted to talk but when you use it they judge for necro a thread.

Apparently nobody replying to these even reads the entire thing before posting.

Because you are assuming too much.

That is way too big of a feature to limit because of gilspam. It's annoying, yes, but making new players have to work around so much to contact their friends and remove the ability of a private discussion in-game is not worth it.

That alienates and punishes players for another's wrongs.

I think a chat filter like Guildworks's would be better. People could share their filters online. More effective than simply adding them to a player blacklist, and doesn't punish people who have no business being restricted for a game they're paying monthly for.

Now, as for an option for people to block /tells coming from gc-free players? I wouldn't like it, but that option wouldn't be as bad. New players who really want to /tell someone something who has that blocked can find another method to contact them, ask them to turn off the block temporarily, and then have their /tell conversation. At least it gives both parties their options.

    (1000 char limit is hard)

here is my idea to stop the gil spammers that are doing it through tells. before using the /say, /shout, /yell, & /tell you need to complete your first quest in order to use /say, /yell, /shout, & /tell when using a new character.
what do think of this idea of mine.
Edit: gil spammers never complete there first quest at all.
