I'm all for banning people in suspicious RMT behavior. Naming your retainer RMT is NOT advertising, endorsing or in any way even supportive of RMTs. It does nothing to aid them.

Banning a player with a sense of humor that Archadius doesn't agree with is not something anyone at SE would/should waste even a second to consider.

Again with the getting over myself... It's really growing tiresome.

By naming a retainer RMT you are essentially tossing up an RMT flag, it's really not much different than seeing a Lala train run by with no LS and all random names like Pqqqq Xxys. This naming thing is just a window to a bigger problem and should be cut short. At the very least I think forcing a rename of the retainer would make sense, coupled with a warning perhaps.

An outright ban might be a bit much, but I seriously hate RMT and everything they represent so it's a rather touchy subject.

An overly-active ban hammer is another plague to a gaming community. Don't go around telling people they fail when they don't agree with you...

...especially when you are failing this hard.

I've never seen a gaming community fail because they "banned too many RMT or players suspected of RMT activites" XD

The reason for his fail is that I "need to get over myself" when clearly this issue is not about me, it's about promoting a healthy community.

It is very clear that this is a touchy subject for you.

Hence, the get over yourself comments. Your proposal simply merits that sort of response.

Perhaps asking for a name change could be acceptable, but with the plethora of inappropriate retainer names out there that still manage to stay active I don't see a retainer named RMT grabbing the attention of SE.

The RMT presence is an issue to the community. Their presence is an issue to the community.

A retainer named RMT is an issue to you.

Everyone who posted on this thread is against RMT. Only you are against a retainer named RMT.

Please, do not confuse the two - and don't even begin to suggest that what is an issue to you is an issue to the community.

Let SE deal with RMT when the time comes. Clearly they have more important tasks at hand currently.

My concern is where we draw the line. If this type of thing is considered "acceptable" by SE, then players (and well-trained RMTs) wish push further to see what else they can get away with. I'd hate to see something like this have major repercussions in the future. I agree that these issues should be investigated first though.

I actually think the RMTs work mainly with the crystal wards, low cost over head, just need fishing and alchemy and you can fish for all the ingredients you need. which means you can sell them for pretty low and still make a million gil in a few days. The retainers that might belong to RMTs are the ones that throw up 10 stacks of 999 crystals (all the same element) at once and leave it alone for about a week or two even. If you don't want to do business with them don't buy the crystals off those retainers.

I understand your frustration towards RMT, Archadius. More often than not, RMTs are the downfall of a game if no kind of regulation is implemented, but the name "RMT" alone is advertising gil selling as much as a Galkan lancer named "Massive Penetration" (true name - he's on my screen right now) is advertising sexual favors. It could be just me, but I don't think Penny is doing that. If I asked him for his 900 number (not that I would!) he'll probably think I'm crazy.

SE's policy with inappropriate names has always been to make the player change their character's name, not ban them.

Concerning RMT and SE, SE has never been lax on the RMT situation. In the beginning, they programmed an entire game around making things difficult for the gil sellers to propagate, so I don't think they're going to be any less strict with RMTs moving forward.
