Questions and thinking about starting this game.

So I have played 2 characters almost to lvl 10, and I have a few questions. So far I have enjoy my adventures and wish to know more that the trial can't answer for me. My brother played for 2 months, said he maxed everything out, and had fun but will not come back.

I enjoy MMOs like WoW and Guild Wars 1 and 2. I really enjoy how this game is played, but I feel like it lacks in the content department by a lot. So here is a list of questions.

    1. Is it worth the $15 compared to what other paid MMO's offer?
    2. How much content does it have compared with other paid MMO's?
    3. Is the PVP fun, worth it, and does the pvp have rewards?

I have played maybe 5 hours total so if my thoughts so far are false please let me know. Also don't be a negative nancy. If someone post just bashing the game I will ignore it. Also if the post seems too fanboy I will ignore it. I want to know an honest opinion of the game.

    1. The game is a themepark MMO. The gameplay and boss mechanics are solid and fun, but they do become repetitive and bland once you have them down. Many players just come back every 3 months to taste the new content. Like WoW, most of the content is focused after you reach lv.50. Unlike WoW though, XIV doesn't try to rush you to the level cap. That might change with more expansions though. As for cost per month, I think it beats out Elder Scrolls and Wildstar. It is much slower to start compared to them, but the endgame is better designed.

    2. It's hard to say because games like WoW have a 8 year lead to develop content. I will say that there is a major content patch every 3 months, with minor content updates spread out every 1 to 1.5 months, and seasonal events (and it's kept to this schedule so far). Comparing it to other games released in 2012 and 2013, XIV is ahead or about par with gw2.

    3. PvP has some gear rewards, although most players value them for purely cosmetic purposes. The Battlefront is a good one, but the team fights are mediocre at best. A lot of the abilities are not well balanced for pvp, although they are improving (slowly) with time and testing. If you expect WoW or Guild Wars, where design focused on pvp as a crucial game feature, ffxiv is going to be a big disappointment.

Thank you for the honest info. Ill continue playing through the trial and still consider the 15/m sub. Funny enough ESO and Wildstar were the other 2 I was considering.

If you're looking at a new MMO with comparable graphics and a subscription, those 2 are the only games that come to mind.

btw, I know wildstar started catering to the hardcore raiding playerbase (it's a small fanbase but consider it if its your thing), while ESO recently removed their 6-month subscription option (a distressing sign considering they have made no comment on why yet). For all their great features, ffxiv is probably the most successful of the recent releases. Keep that in mind and know that many players consider the game a tutorial until you hit lv.50 when the class/job is actually complete and you can unlock all the dungeons.

Good luck and maybe i'll see you online.
