Though maybe in older times whips were used to actually hit animals, that is not so much the case any more. Whips are still very common in animal training by just cracking the whip to make a loud sound, not actually striking them with it. It would surely be an animal cruelty issue if they actually struck them with it.
And the chain whip IS what this thread is about. The whips that Quistis used in FFVIII were mostly of the chain whip variety. The weapon that Ivy used from soul calibur that could go back and forth between a sword and a chain whip comes to mind when i think about it. That weapon could even break apart into multiple pieces during some attack animationsPretty sweet
