Perhaps we could try to nip the whole thing bud. RMT is only there because people are buying right? If it wasn't profitable they would just go infest some other MMO, in my opinion. So why don't we simply prevent players from mailing or trading gil to each other, instead of limiting /tells?

Or set a cap to maximum amt of gil traded or mailed in a day cannot exceed 50k per user account? I think this would be a more elegant solution.

uh... well, I sold a savage might IV to a player in my FC for 550k... are you suggesting that trades like that should require an 11 day payment plan?

Also there are already some restrictions on moving around with high amounts of gil. I had something like 6 million when I transferred servers only to find out that you can only take something like 2 mil on your character and no more than 100k on retainers. I ended up bringing a LOT of peacock ore with me to my new server, took me a week to turn it all back into gil, but there are restrictions. I couldn't tell you what all they are.

In my opinion and best and only solution to gil spam is a player side filter option that would allow you, the player, to choose a level threshold to receive tells from. You could have the filter off so everyone can reach you, or set the limit to characters over level 5, or set it to characters over level 49. It would be up to you to decide. Spammers do not level to spam tells. They also do not spam from level 50 farm bot accounts. This solution, I believe, would be the end of gil spam if players set a threshold of something as crazy as level 2 or 3.
