    Hmm, well normally I just start with a "hello" or "howdy" and if the group is good, then there is likely not going to be much else said the whole dungeon until the final boss is dead.

    Most of the time if you are DF'ing solo there's actually very little reason to talk, outside of making conversation or telling someone they are doin' it wrong, because generally speaking these other players are likely not even on your same server so you are not likely to ever run into them again and remember that you ran a dungeon with them before one time.

    I do make conversation though, when I DF and actually get into a random DF party with people from my own server that I actually do know. It's a fun coincidence, and has actually happened to me a few times and is usually always fun/funny.

    Most of my chatting happens in Mumble and I'm not in a dungeon because I want to be, but because I'm being forced to grind it for tomes/relic. I'd blame SE for turning people into zombies, because this current design is pretty brainless. : \

    Unfortunately, this game focuses on repetition of timed mindless tasks/instances.

    Some other MMOs (especially older ones) were more socially focused. That meant that you had to spend time and effort finding a group... but most actual play was very social and server communities were pretty strong. Everquest was like that.

    The trend of impatience and lack of time has reduced most games nowadays to an anonymous instance grind. That does have a direct effect on the social experience of the games

    Sometimes I have to wonder if this is really the community YoshiP wants FFXIV to be. I mean, I was low rouletting in Brayflox the other day and the lvl 32 (I think he was 32) dragoon in the party was so thankful that I actually went around and killed more mobs than the straight bee-line to bosses method I got when I was leveling Nin. He had waited 1 hour to get into the dungeon and I felt sorry for the poor guy 'cause I knew just how he felt.

    That's pretty much what roulettes are like. There's little more to do more than that. Due to cross-server status, impossibility to even see what server someone plays on within the dungeon, add people to friends list, and never seeing them again there's no reason to make any more out of it than that to be frank.

    It's not a FFXIV specific issue, but an MMO-wide problem with as to how cross-server instancing is setup and its limitations to social communication after the instance is dealt with.

    As somone amoung many who're doing the Zodiac Relic questline.

    19 Dzemael Darkhold Runs

    30 Aurum Vales

    10-15 Stone Vigil (HM)

    (etc.)

    It becomes quite easy after your 5-6th run of the day to completely zone out the dungeon, people, mechanics or anything else for that matter.
    I personally usually strive to at least say 'Hello', but most of the time now I don't even bother responding.

    Outside of this however, generally most of the dungeons I do except for the last few grinds of the day, I either chat with or attempt to talk to the party.
    Repeating dungeons can be horrible, so usually most people are willing to talk to you to make the grind less boring.

    Isn't that the problem though? People aren't actually having fun in this system... it's boring. What is the point of playing a game that is boring?

    Of course this is why I am not bothering with the zodiac grind.

    That's exactly why I don't do it either. I am actually still affected by it because I *hate* speed runs with a passion and that's all people seem to do in roulettes anymore.

    That's entirely up to you, but that's what we're given.

    Well most speed-runs are just a simple "Pull two/three sets of mobs and AOE/attack them down"
    There isn't much complexity to it, unlike some of the older dungeons. (Stone Vigil/Amdapor Keep/Wanderers Palace) Where it required a certain method/timing.

    When Amdapor Keep became boring on launch, speed-runs made it interesting. It was already such a slow grind that this made it considerably more bearable for most people.
    20-30 minutes condensed into 5-10 minute runs was quite pleasant as it provided an actual challenge to an otherwise quite easy dungeon (after the first few tries).



    However, all you have to do is say "I'd prefer not to speed-run". But at this point, pulling more than 3 measly mobs is the standard.

    Yeah I have to agree OP, I get frustrated when I join a df, say my greeting and no one says a thing. Its like come on people, this is a MMO correct? You did join a cross-server DF right? Show some respect and at least acknowledge the person who is talking to. I hate using RL examples, but if someone says 'Hi' or 'How are you doing?' Are you going to just ignore them and run off, or will you reply to them? If it's the former you're just an asshole I guess. And that seems to be the type of people the DF attracts.
