Can someone give me an in-depth explanation why Summoner is arguably the worst DPS?

DoT jobs are different than direct damage jobs because they don't do damage up front. DoT jobs need to have the highest sustained damage in order to be balanced around end game content otherwise it ends up being in a situation like Summoner where there is a mass exodus from the job at endgame.

I still see summoners running around. It isn't the mass exodus that you claim. Honestly posts like these just make the community more toxic towards the class. I was in Odin and a Monk was like "SMN you better try hard. Blame SE for screwing up your class." I was getting parse'd by an FC mate and I was not the lowest DPS on the totem pole. I didn't do as much but I was also right at the cap for Odin.
