New Player Subscription Question

Hello! Am new to the game (bought the Collector's Edition after playing the free trial; also participated in the Beta) and am wondering how subscriptions work here. Is there a way to set up an auto-renew each month? And are subscriptions purchased only through the website, or can you set them up through the PSN?

Thanks in advance for the help. Am feeling overwhelmed a bit after coming from DCUO as it's nowhere near as deep/complex as this game is, but hit Level 15 and am enjoying the game a ton. Also, I'm on the Mateus server - is that any good? And are there any benefits to joining a Free Company? I've been invited a couple of times but didn't respond because I'm not sure what kind of commitment is expected and am still learning the ropes.

You can definitely set your subscription to be reoccurring, by choosing your payment option on the Mogstation as a credit card or debit card, and then selecting the billing period of 30, 60 or 90 days. Time cards only give as much subscription as the length of time listed on the card, and can't be set up for reoccurring subscription. I'm not sure if you can set your subscription through PSN though, as FFXIV is administered by Square Enix and not Sony.

As for your server, as far as I understand Mateus is a 'new' server and thus would have a much smaller population than some other servers. However that doesn't mean they're empty - there are active communities on all servers so you should be able to find people to play with on Mateus without too much problems. And a Free Company is a good place to start, as they're FFXIV's equivalent to a player 'guild' or 'clan'. Some FCs hence like to only concentrate on certain content (like end game stuff), but there are bound to be FCs that are friendly to new people and will gladly help those who need it.

A good stepping stone is to check the forum for your server and have a look at the FCs and linkshells (similar to a FC but simply a chat channel you can use to communicate with others) who are looking for new members. Mateus's forum can be found here.
