I could have sworn this thread existed... and it does! >_>Yep. Lots of good ideas were discussed in this thread from before:

Lol, I totally forgot I'd posted that here before, thought it was just on zam way back.
Oh wells, I've been hoping for something like that from an MMO pretty much since the first time I played an MMO. I'll probably make mention of it again next year sometime. :P
Anyways... Guess that's that... for now... Glad to see you remembered though lol. I hope SE remembers too, the whole golden saucer thing was there idea in the first place after all. :P
You'd make a better accountant than me. D:lol. Lot's more where that came from to keep track of everything:

I like this idea. I know a good portion of people would hate the idea of throwing a nod towards previous FF games, but I wouldn't even mind if they called it the Golden Saucer and made it look the same(at least, from an outside point of view, they can change the inside as much as they want.)

I seen a fun center in a recent MMO...it didn't work too well because all MMOs suffer the same plague:
Companies dislike allowing newer players enjoy the festivities, since for example some slot machines cost 12 gold to utilize, however 12 gold = a good 89,000 silver which takes a good while to make if you're just starting off.
I'm personally in the realm of having mini-games being scattered and serving their own purpose, e.g in XI we had Bastion OPs, Campaign Ops, Chocobo Raising/Racing and Monster vs Monster fights.
Since this game is more medieval centric, than a futuristic setting, such as in FF VII, I think a carnival would suit this game's world best. Have a carnival placed somewhere in the games world (Somewhere in Coerthas or La Noscea, maybe) and offer players to enter (similar to a settlement) and be able to interact with NPC characters and mini-game varieties for players to spend time in and earn points to unlock cool items and such.
I think this would:
A) Accomplish giving the players more things to do in their spare time, which allows them to play mini game solo or with friends and earn goodies
B) Gives more flavor and personality to the world around the players
I think this was actually a really positive, inspiring thread made by the original poster, and I think the devs should take it under consideration for the future when they have nothing on their plates keeping them busy. Good ideas I see here!
I never really understood why they are not implementing this??? I can program mini games, I'm sure they can do much better. A nice place for mini games is always good, but many mini games scattered around the world even better. But think, a Golden Saucer with a fee to enter (good Gil sink)
Everyone and their dog want a card game, yet, they don't even think about it.... just think, an in game card game, where you walk to a guy and issue a challenge ; ;
A Golden Saucer problem is, it'll put all the games in one area... that's a no-no for an MMO. (although like Verecund said, maybe ppl will go to Gridania then :P)
Leonesaurus idea above me is full of win, only one minor fix (maybe you did mention it?) make the carnival mobile.... meaning every few days in a new area

I can program 30 content concepts in the span of 7 months. It's not about what can and can't be done, it's about priorities and what is needed, and XIV currently doesn't need a 'theme park', it needs actual content and a lot of fixes.I never really understood why they are not implementing this??? While I agree wholeheartedly whit what you said, who said FFXIV doesn't need mini-games and a fun area??? IT IS content. and it is more fun than crafting to be honest. And I only said that I can program it to show that it's indeed easy. and for a company with SEs caliber, it's more than easy.
If I'm not mistaken, content was #1 thing that people wanted. Again, who said a theme park is not content? Maybe they just need our voice (of wanting) to get the whip cracking![]()
