(TL;DR) AWESOME IDEA FOR AFTER BASE STRUCTURE FOR GAME IS SET and some extra content is released (TL;DR)
i had made a facebook account earlier that was for having a golden saucer in ffxiv, but it was based off my wife's account so i don't check it or even remember how to get to it (as i don't use social media... or internet other than youtube and this forum).
Golden Saucer encompasses all that everyone loves: Fun, Fighting, Romance, Risk, Drama, Racing, Reward/Loss, Games, etc etc.
I am so sick of FF mmo story revolving around 1700 A.D. and before themes; it's time we send a message that we want some modern themes. the FF series is not known for its PURE sword and magic themes and that's what sets it aside from other RPGs IMO. i'd like to see some modern themes in future content.
This kind of idea would make for a good expansion/content patch later on, and as the community rep said earlier they do have a lot on their plate at the moment. Would rather see the game get to a state where it can be successful and overcome the the results of the initial release.
Really, the best thing about adding something like this, is it adds a cash drain.
This is a great idea. A place to go to have a blast, hang out, and maybe compete with other players. I'm down with that idea. Here's some thoughts:
Sparring: A coliseum where you can play versus each other in friendly or competitive combat. Maybe even add a 3v3 mode for flavor. As an added option, perhaps an Ante system where if you like, you can wager gil or items before the match, winner take all.
Cards: DEFINITELY bring back the trading card games of FF past like Triple Triad. It would be fun to collect, trade, and compete. Tournaments can be shown on big screens for spectators (they can use Moblin tech or something :P). I like the idea of traditional card games too, although perhaps with an FF twist?
Dice: Sure why not? You could have a dice hall run by a man who looks oddly like Setzer of FF6. Maybe even feature it on an old-school airship!
And of course, the idea of having tons of tourist-y shops and such that sell unique items for vanity's sake or even actual use would be cool. Moogle hats and/or backpacks, Tonberry outfits and knives that can use a /doink emote (relax, they don't one-shot for real :P), fireworks, cotton candy, chocobo chicks, that kind of thing. Like others have said, it's a place to have fun and throw away some gil on a good time. Gets my vote!
That would be fun with one important feature: COMPLETE control of the character in play, not a numbers game to determine probability and such. Imagine a blitzball game with the controls of a FIFA game, and there's MY good time with Blitzball.
YES YES and more YES!!! LOVE the idea of having a setzer and the airship!! Very nostalgic! two thumbs up!This is a great idea. A place to go to have a blast, hang out, and maybe compete with other players. I'm down with that idea. Here's some thoughts:

Gambler as a 'gathering' class, using slots and card tables as nodes XD
be a great place to race chocobos too
Going by SE idea of fun mini games in this game currently, how about: NO! HELL NO!
~ Carnival Ideas ~
Where to start, where to start... I'm just going to jump into some ideas I've had for awhile now, nothing fancy.
- Triple Triad
- Chocobo Chick Racing
- Texas Hold Em (Variant - Ala Mhigan Hold Em?)
- Soccer Ball Mini-Game (Mini Game To Score Goals via Gathering Bar Mini Game Meter --- Snurble Ball?)
- Guessing Game (Choosing Which Cup Holds the Item ---> More cups = harder game, but better rewards)
- Wack-A-Mole Mini-Game (Grab a mallet and wack (fake) moles for a high score via QTE sequence possibly?)
* These are just a few simple ideas, not necessarily the best, but some could be better than others. Some games earn you tickets and with enough enough tickets means you can trade them in for cool prizes only obtained through the carnival. Some other gambling type games reward you with Gil instead of tickets and can be played with other players attending the carnival.
To enter the carnival requires a small fee, but it good for people looking for another Gil sink option. (optional idea)
* For the Triple Triad idea, I just want to say I've never played it nor FF VIII, so I can't say anything in detail about how it plays or how it should be implemented, but almost every post I've read asks for it. If I was a developer reading these posts, I would most definitely bring that idea up at some future meeting and try to get it implemented though. So that's why I put it on there, so new players and familiar players can all enjoy playing Triple Triad, with an Eorzean theme added to it, of course.
* For Chocobo Racing, I think it would be best to leave those to the major cities whenever the team decides to start planning for them, and use the smaller Chocobos for the little junior races at the carnival. Multiple players can place bets on a single race, similar to the track in FF XI, and lucky winners and runner ups can obtain rewards (Gil or tickets for prizes? Not sure yet)
* I also feel that the Carnival should move around to different locations during the week, rather than placing it around Ul'Dah or Thanalan, like everything else in the game. Maybe one day/week have it somewhere set up in La Noscea, and another day/week have the carnival men/women have it set up around the forest in the Twelveswood, and then somewhere in the deserts of Thanalan or the fields of Coerthas.
